  • A waratah in Sydney’s Blue Mountains. On this particular trip there were quite a few in full bloom. Laden with canyoning gear (and my trusty SLR, a tripod and a flash) I managed to snap off a few shots without holding the group up too much.

  • “Independence Pass Overlook” This past summer, I was able to get to parts of Colorado that I haven’t been to in close to 30 some odd years to do some shooting, and this is one of those places. “Famous” (perhaps even “Infamous”) Independence Pass….the second highest paved mountain pass in Colorado. Last time I was here I was about 11, and my Mom said she would never ever come back again, to drive on this road. It is incredibly narrow, though they have done some construction since then, however, what ya see here is just what ya get…..no guard rails and straight down, thousands of feet. It is stunning though, and my only real regret is that I couldn’t shoot it in the morning light, though I think next year I will, just will need to do an overnight as it is several hours away. From “Wikipedia”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independence_Pass_%28Colorado%29 / The pass is at the summit of the ridge of the Sawatch Range between Aspen and Leadville, on the border between Pitkin and Lake counties and is located within the confines of the White River National Forest. The pass connects the upper valley of the Roaring Fork River upstream from Aspen with the headwaters of the Arkansas River near Leadville. The pass is traversed by Colorado State Highway 82 and is the second-highest paved mountain pass in Colorado. The top of the pass is well above the tree line and the terrain type at the top is tundra. Its narrow road provides for slow cautious navigation on its approaches. Several switchbacks on each side of the pass make careful planning a must. The pass is always closed in winter, from the first heavy snow fall in autumn, often opening only in late May. • This was taken near Queenstown in New Zealand November 2006. We drove about for hours and there was not much evidence of human life which allowed you to appreciate the peace and stillness. A lonely place too I think.

  • I found this bee feeding on flowers on a “blackboy” plant (otherwise known as a grass tree). The flowers are quite unique and I was lucky to capture them. This was at my block of land at Katoomba.

  • you kind of have to look for this bloom. the greenery on it is huge leaves that only grows about a foot from the ground. unless you look under those leaves you wont see the bloom. dont have any lighting problems w/ shooting this flower :) / i shot this macro, laying under many of these flowers, using a nikon diopter lens attached to a canon 73-300mm lens

  • Found these in the Greenbrier area of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The Dwarf Iris ( Iris verna ) is a real eye catcher anywhere you find them. While the Star Chickweed (Stellaria pubera) was a wonderful complement to them. So often we get in to big a rush, to get where we are going, to really take in the small beauties of the forest floor. Chickweed is a good diuretic that want deplete the body of minerals. It also can be used as a poultice to soothe irritated skin… The dwarf iris was used as a blood purifier, for dropsy, and as a laxative Also anyone viewing this with a Calibrated Monitor please let me know on color and sturation, just got a new monitor and havein trouble ajusting to flat screens Gotta include one for the Granddaughter too.
