Taken on the trail to Firebrand Pass in Glacier NP.
I was on my way to work one morning, on the ferry as usual, when all of a sudden a single frangipani blossom landed on the deck beside me. Where it came from I don’t know. / / I wanted to photograph it, but hesitated. First, what would the other passengers think? Second, I’m sure the crew already thinks I’m batty, and they may be right. / / But the real reason I hesitated is that the blossom wasn’t perfect. There it was on the deck, blowing around, hitting a small puddle of water that was sitting there … and all I could think was “shame – it’s not perfect”. Beautiful, but not perfect. And the scent – I wish there was smellography so I could share that too. / / I picked it up, put it down, and it blew away. I felt a loss and picked it up again. I had to shoot. Even if I didn’t show it, because it wasn’t perfect. / / But I’ve thought about it, and I think maybe it is the imperfections that make it beautiful. The same applies to people. We could make an exact duplicate of a perfect frangipani blossom out of some unnatural material. It would last for years, and always look the same. Extract some scent and spray it occasionally, and you’d have the same effect as a real flower right? No. / / The reality, fragility, and imperfections combined with the improbability of it landing on the deck beside me are what made this beautiful. After all, I pass by a frangipani bush every day, covered in gorgeous blossoms. I’ve never spent the time staring at them that I did at this one imperfect blossom. / / Beautiful. / / / © Sara Lamond 2007. All rights reserved. / / / / / / / / / / / /

A local bluebell wood (South Wingfield, Derbyshire, UK) – ortonised. Always makes for a pretty image.
Taken with my Nikon D60 with standard 18-55 lens. / As the camera remembered it :-) / Each year I wait patiently for the bluebells to arrive – its a great moment when you walk into the woodland and its covered in a carpet of purple! Photo taken in Hampshire, England. This image made my first sale & i’m sooooo pleased as it is my favourite. (Whoever bought it, thank you so much and hope you enjoy it as much as I do)

” ~ For My Friend Byron ~ 11” / / ~ In Loving Memory of your Mother ~ / / The long winter has passed, and it’s such a joy to see the forest come alive with new buds, and the Dogwoods in bloom. I find myself strolling along through the forest gazing at these blossoms as they brighten up the early spring sky. Native Dogwoods are small shrubs varying in size, and height that thrive under Arkansas hardwood forest. The blooms are approx 1 inch in diameter. Blooms in mid-May. / / If you would you like to ADD YOUR OWN WORDS to create a personal sentiment to this as a greeting card, please / Contact Me / I will make it personal from YOU, to YOUR friends. / / FEATURED IN SPRING BLOOMS 1 24 009

There is no doubting the fact with their stocky appearance, sweeping horns and eyes that peep out through long shaggy fringes, Highland Cattle win hearts and are favorites amongst animal lovers around the World. What isn’t so obvious is the hardiness of this ancient breed. They were born and bred to deal with the extreme weather conditions of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland making them the hardiest breed of cattle in the world today. / Digital painting is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolor, oils, etc. are applied using digital tools by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus, and software. Inside a rustic cottage full of beautiful things at a New Brunswick historical site. I’m unable to download the original large size image due to problems with uploading to RB. I was able to download this card-size version only. It seems there are a few Redbubblers that are experiencing the same problem. © 2009 Anne Hale. Featured in Windows and Doors group, Nov. 29/09.
Well as you can see from the images below, The Empty Studio has been all about inks…my inks had been put away for so long some of them had dried out, and had to be discarded, but I still have an assortment of acrylic inks, and have been using mostly sepia and black for this collection… Today I added a bit of colour to this latest painting of Hollyhocks…they seemed to need it…I’ve had the sketch forever in my files, and I don’t know where it originated, but at one time I did grow these regal flowers in my garden and maybe the idea came from that time of my life Acrylic Inks on Cotton Paper… Silently a flower blooms, / In silence it falls away; / Yet here now, at this moment, at this place, / The world of the flower, the whole of / the world is blooming. / This is the talk of the flower, the truth / of the blossom: / The glory of eternal life is fully shining here. / - Zenkei Shibayama..
“Poppy” is the newest addition to the Empty Studio collection…the studio is getting a lot emptier as the day for installation draws nearer, so I decided to go back to long ago childhood crafts, and create this flower in a very old but unique way, painting it with lemon juice…I added a bit of detail with a bamboo pen…I am thrilled with the results, and plan to do a lot more of these..... see others in the series below Lemon Juice on Cartridge Paper At dawn I unite with the breeze / To announce the coming of light; / At eventide I join the birds / In bidding the light farewell. / The plains are decorated with / My beautiful colors, and the air / Is scented with my fragrance. / As I embrace Slumber the eyes of / Night watch over me, and as I / Awaken I stare at the sun, which is / The only eye of the day..from The Song of the Flower by Gibran.
The walls are newly painted and the studio awaits the installation of the “newly minted” units which will take place tommorow…I can’t wait…I have a few paintings still hidden in the “Empty Studio” series and this one of flowers was created in the ink wash-off technique, that you saw in a few of the others…it is difficult to end up with detailed work in this style of painting, as the results are unpredictable, but that is the beauty of it…many times it ends up looking like a wood cut... see others in the series below Ink on Arches Paper Different flowers look good to different people / Pick the flower when it is ready to be picked. / The flower that you spent time to care for does not grow while the willow / that your accidentally planted flourishes and gives shade.
