  • Boreas Pass, Colorado…..one of my favorite places on the face of the Earth to shoot at….the fact that there is hardly anyone ever up here and the fields of Wildflowers go on forever really make this quite an extraordinary place. Located on the Continental Divide, it reaches an altitude of 11,481 feet high. The pass was formerly known as Breckenridge Pass in the 1860s, when it served as an early route for thousands of prospectors during the Colorado Gold Rush who crossed from South Park to look for gold in the valley of the Blue around Breckenridge. In 1866, it was widened to a wagon road that accommodated stagecoaches. In 1882, under the direction of Sidney Dillon of the Union Pacific Railroad , the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad (by then controlled by the Union Pacific) begun laying narrow gauge tracks up the pass, which Dillon renamed in honor of Boreas, the Ancient Greek god of the North Wind.

  • I was given this litte poem from a friend when I had my double mastectomies 8/14/2004. I thought it appropriate to show with the lovely flower blooming from my garden and put next to my peaceful water fountain in my living room. Mainly not for whom wrote the statement Lady Bird Johnson a democrat which I am not, but to remind all that our election is a very few weeks away and that life is precious so please stop and smell a rose or two. Think of how God has blessed each and every one of you. Yes, we all have had and are most I know experiencing some of the greatest turmoils in our lifes right now. We deifinately DO NOT NEED, CHANGE for the wrong reasons! We need to look for hope in the future and experience of long term committment that has been shown, the fresh faced approach of a young family who is commited to helping our country with all the “reality tv” it can slam at their faces in a 24 hour day and still put a smile on. We have to step back and think what a team we have that can deal with that kind of pressure and not fall to that. So, let’s all move forward for the right reasons, get on your knees and pray we know that there is hope for this country for all who serve and are serving now. Let’s not forget to vote and leave all their hard efforts in dismay!

  • This is my tribute to Muntazer al-Zaidi. The legendary journalist who threw his shoe at George W Bush during his farewell visit to Iraq. Clearly it is based on Banksy’s “Flower Chucker” stencil which is based on a photo from the 1968 riots in Paris. I’ve tried to keep it faithful to both Banksy and Muntazer by illustrating his head as close as possible to the original press conference image, in the style of “Flower Thrower”. I also illustrated the shoe to fit his hand just nicely and added a bit of definition to the fingers. Love to know what you think. Good riddance George Dubbaya. Muntazer al-Zaid may be the thrower, but you certainly are the tosser. / / / / / / /

  • The Common Dandelion (Taraxacum Officinale) is generally described as a perennial forb or herb. This one was taken in a friends garden, I liked the way half of it was missing, this is the first macro I have tried. I hope you like it. Canon 5D, 100mm macro, f/2.8, 1/320 sec, ISO 800. No filters used. As shot from the camera. This shot is also available from a photobook collection called Rural Mementos by redtree.me © Copyright 2009 David Reid – redtree.me – All rights reserved.

  • Sometimes shooting outside the “golden hours” can really highlight the vibrancy of the tropics…......hope you like this one :-) Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, August 2009

  • Tachogna beach, Tinian Couldn’t believe the beautiful blues emerging every few minutes and the hundreds of mozzies that made a meal of me !! Tinian is about 5 miles (8km) southwest of Saipan, from which it is separated by the Saipan Channel. / Tinian is one of 3 principal islands of the Northern Mariana Islands. It’s probably best known for being the base from which the American atomic bomb attacks on Japan during World War II were launched. The Island has a variety of flora and fauna, as well as limestone cliffs and caves. There is also a variety of marine life and coral reefs surrounding the island. Its clear, warm waters are ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving.

  • Captured this one down Gavin Lake Rd – in Kent County Michigan USA _ Camera used was Canon 350D

  • Bird Island, Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, USA The only way to really capture the vibrant blues of the tropics is to shoot outside the golden hours. After capturing this we watched manta rays gliding through the reef from above, not the place to be when one is a diver, though they are incredibly beautiful to see :-)) 33 C 89% humidity
