The landscaper told me that this month the butterflies would be everywhere. Everyday I have been seeing more and more. All through spring, I put off the flower shots. Now all I’ve got is this one, tired and withering. And yet I still find it beautiful. Even as the petals curl and fall, it delivers its most precious gift of all – the promise of the next generation. When spring returns it will be born again a hundred times over. And maybe, just maybe, I won’t wait so long to capture them.

This is a depiction of a very common Texas butterfly….the Cloudless Sulphur Butterfly (Phoebis sennae) and this particular one is a male… These butterflies are everywhere during the late spring, summer, and early fall around my house. I have been trying to find the perfect portrait of this yellow beauty…and I dont know if I found the “perfect” one…but I did finally take one that I am satisfied with. Normally these butterflies are very timid and skittish and wont stay still for too long…especially when a human with a really large shadow comes their way. Today however it started to cool off….which worked in my favor..because all of these little guys were moving slow and just sitting in the sunshine eating and warming up….which gave me a great opportunity to take as many pictures as they would sit still for… Thank you Suni
Every year when springtime comes my Grandfather asks me to take pictures of the bluebonnets growing in his yard…which he lets them cover his front yard…and For those of you who arent familiar with the bluebonnet….it happens to be the State Flower….so they grow everywhere during March or so…. back to the point.. Each year..I get a decent overall shot of his bluebonnets..but a quality portrait of an individual bluebonnet has evaded me for some reason…. but I finally came close to being completely happy with this portrayal of a beautiful flower. And in any case..I will have to wait until the Bluebonnets begin to bloom again before I can take any more… Thanks / Suni

Here is a little bit of South Texas sunshine to warm your bones during this cold winter. The yellow roses were photographed in my neighbor’s yard yesterday. Enjoy Ya’ll
A visitor to Texas needs to encounter the beautiful meadows filled with Blue Bonnets just once to be completely charmed. The scent is subtle but heavenly. The Blue Bonnets color of heavenly blue changes with the sunlight depending on the time of day. To walk through a meadow filled with these beauties as they bend gently in the wind and fill the nostils and the heart with joy, is truly a heavenly walk.

Feature All Pets Great and Small – 4/16/2009 This field of bluebonnets and Texas Indian Paintbrushes is growing in our neighborhood. We took Champ there yesterday (4/10/09) to take his first pictures in the bluebonnets. I tried to get a shot of him with the bunny ears on, but it didn’t come out very good. The sun was shining on one side of him and he kept taking the ears off, so I gave up. I made this collage of him, so many of them came out very well considering how bright the sun was shining on him. It was late, around 7:00pm, the sun was going down. We had the most beautiful sunset afterwards. Champ is now 14 months old, he is a border collie and a very smart, sweet boy if I might add! Inspired by the first “Frog Hunting”. I couldn’t resist doing another. I love watching herons hunting for their dinner at the lake.
