  • Great ideas come into the world as quietly as doves. Perhaps then , if we listen attentively we shall hear, among the uproar of empires and nations, the faint fluttering of wings, the gentle stirrings of life and hope. Some will say this hope lies in a nation; others in a man. I believe rather that it is awakened, revived, nourished by millions of solitary individuals whose deeds and works every day negate frontiers and the crudest implications of history. Each and every one, on the foundations of their own suffering and joy builds for all. / – Albert Camus The Untapped Source Store – Portfolio/Blog – deviantART Shop / “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”

  • …How do ideas come? What a question! If they come of their own accord, they are apt to arrive at the most unexpected time and place. For the most part the place is out of doors, for up in this northern wilderness when nature puts on a show it is an inspiring one. There seem to be magic days once in a while, with some rare quality of light that hold a body spellbound: In sub-zero weather there will be a burst of unbelievable color when the mountain turns a deep purple, a thing it refuses to do in summer. Then comes the hard part: how to plan a picture so as to give to others what has happened to you. To render in paint an experience, to suggest the sense of light and color, air and space, there is no such thing as sitting down outside and trying to make a “portrait” of it. It lasts for only a minute, for one thing, and it isn’t an inspiration that can be copied on the spot…. / - Maxfield Parrish Posterlounge Store – Portfolio/Blog – deviantART Shop / “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”

  • Having decided what shape his future will take, the Fool strides forward. But he is impatient to make his future a full-grown reality. This is when he comes upon the Empress. Hair gold as wheat, a crown of stars, a white gown dotted with pomegranates. She rests back on her throne surrounded by an abundance of grain and a lush garden. It is possible that she is pregnant. Kneeling, the Fool relates to her his story. And she, in turn, smiles a motherly smile and gently gives him this advice: “Like newly planted grain or a child in the womb, a new life, a new love, a new creation is fragile. It requires fertile soil, patience and nurturing, it needs love and attention. Only this will bring it to fruition.” Understanding at last that his future will take time to build and create, the Fool thanks the Empress and continues on his way. Pregnant. Well, not in the Rider-Waite deck she isn’t. But she is in early decks, and it is an apt symbol for this card. The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / To read more go to this site*

  • Amazingly there are 20 species of Magpie in the world. Not quite sure which I have painted here… looks more like an Australian magpie Many people consider them superstitious, they certainly have their place in folklore, some believe they bring good luck, others believe bad. I remember being played Rossini’s Thriving Magpie when I was quite young; it is said they have a panache for shiny, silvery things which they like to steal and hide. / Here the magpie has found a key! I wonder where it came from? I see him as a ‘Keeper of Secrets’. / The selected text comes from a traditional rhyme I was told as a child: One for sorrow, Two for joy, / Three for a girl, Four for a boy, / Five for Silver, Six for Gold / Seven for a secret never to be told This is an acrylic painting on canvas.

  • An elegant Black and White image of a dandelion. I always used to gently blow these dandelions and make silent wishes when i was a child.

  • I hope you enjoy this pretty little butterfly that I took in my garden this past summer :) He didn’t seem to mind me poking around with my camera… I was glad of the opportunity! He didn’t stay long but I managed to get a few good shots! I adore the markings and colourings of his wings! Isn’t that red/orange colour just stunning! I’m very proud of this photo, I really love how it turned out. Looking back and my gallery from beginning to now, I can truly see how I have grown as a photographer and this fact makes me very happy and accomplished  Certainly I have a long way to go yet, but the nice thing about this hobby is that I am very passionate about it. Hopefully some day I can do something more with photography. That’ll be so amazing! Thanks to the investigative brilliance of a friend, I’ve found out the name of this pretty butterfly! It is called “American Lady – Vanessa virginiensis” They seem to be common to New England, though I am guessing generally on the East coast (since I’m in Virginia ^^;) and are under the category of “Anglewings” Camera: Taken with a Canon Rebel XTi / Cropping, small hue/tint adjustments + Sig: Adobe Photoshop CS2 © SilverDew All comments are welcomed and appreciated. • Having a bit of a play around with some old hand coloured photo’s. This disperate group of handcoloured images owe nothing to Adobe in any way shape or form. They were shot with an old SLR using B/W film…. ahh film…. and then processed and printed in a wet darkroom on to Iford multigrade satin paper. Then the photographs were tinted with Marshalls very fine transulent photo oil paints then scanned with my very nice HP H4050 Scanjet flatbed scanner. The day after I took this photo…. the tree got chopped down… and it was in full bloom…. the saddest thing I ever saw….. sigh…..

  • oil on board / 24×30 cm.

  • I painted this over the past two days. Size, 30×40” or 101.6×76.2cm. / Predominantly an acrylic on canvas. Over the recent weeks I am enjoying painting more than ever, I think its because I have finally let go of the outcome and instead enjoy the process more. After all, there is no such thing as a mistake. Please visit me at my blog

  • mixed media watercolor wash, oil/Acrylic on paper Strathmore 300g/m2 / Featured in First Things group / This is a piece inspired by the drive to not give up. I started this as a watercolor, did not like the outcome. I then painted the vase with oil. And still did not like the arrangement but I liked the vase. So I repainted the flowers with a golden acrylic to simulate metal flowers. I then re-painted the background (in acryilic) to suit the composition. -Ben

  • Part of a product shoot I’ve been assigned to do for fabrics (curtain, carpet, material) for an interior design magazine. Procrastination has taken on new levels as I even got excited about doing the dishes over trying to get creative over a grey piece of carpet and the bits that belong with it…but here are a few samples of the samples / / /

  • Made in Ultra Fractal 5, except for the signature. I made this back in March, when the weather was playing tricks on us, making us think that Spring was here. A few days of seasonable weather was followed by a big storm that dumped several inches of snow in our yard.
