A little spin on the old story of Narcissus. Narcissus, as you may well know, was a quite lovely Greek youth enamoured by his own image. He pined away his days staring at his own reflection, eventually growing roots in the ground- punished by the gods for his vanity, he was transformed into the Narcissus flower. Of course this is the root of modern English words like narcissist and narcissistic. / In this work I wanted to spin that old myth in a different direction. As an artist I find myself working for hours and hours, days at a time on my artwork. When I rest from my painting I find myself staring at the result, intrigued by my own work. I love painting and I’m in love with my work. Now, it’s often said that art is but an extention of the artist. If that’s the case then it goes to follow that I’m a bit of a narcissist myself, albeit of a different sort. / The joke in this piece is that it’s a self-portrait. But I’m staring down at my work, which happens to be a Narcissus flower (Narcissus poeticus, to be exact), the work being but a different reflection of myself. / The original was completed in watercolor and gouache media on Arches 180lb. cold-press cotton rag, 2007.

Like all of the work I put on Redbubble. This piece took a long time to finish. I always take my time with important illustrations, especially if I want people to purchase them. The mountains alone took well over 4 hours to complete. I changed them many many times. They could’ve been an illustration by themselves cuz there’s so much detail in them. The idea behind this piece is loosely based on the fact that I never want to give up on my passions in life. Don’t let the fear of failure stop you from pursuing your life’s goals. You don’t want to look back and have regrets. They will haunt you forever….those things you told yourself you always wanted to do will become your ghosts. You cannot run away from your passion/s in life. Further more this illustration is a reminder to me. A personal mission statement built into an illustration. It is me in the illustration…something I never want to become. Drawn on A3 Copy Paper, Colored in Photoshop CS3 with Wacom Detail: /

My First Visit to Leeds Castle / Looking through the blossom. Easter Flowing Beauty at Leeds Castle Kent UK. On this photography trip, I thought “I’ll go out and only take my 50mm prime (no Zoom capability) with me, this meant that for every single shot, to get the framing right I had to move rather than the lense. It was really interesting. Peoeple were watching me much more than normal, I had to duck down, stan tall, kneel in mud and walk back or walk forward, just to get the framing right. It was a good exercise because what you do get with a prime lense is pure light and quality of glass. It’s obvious in the sharp details in the 170 pictures I took on this shoot. I’ll definitely try it again. However, only taking the 50mm prime did hhave it’s limitations as well. I couldn’t get close enough to some subjects to capture the detail that I’d like to have. However, next time I can alway take along my zoom with me. One good things about Leeds Castle, it cost £16.50 to get in, but that enables you to go back as my times as you like within one year. So I’ll definitely be back to capture some more wonderful scenes from here. The place is a choc-box full of delights for any photographer or artist. It’s magical and amazing. / Camera. Paper Doll the reason for the flowers are …the iris and the columbine flowers are associated in religious painting as the Virgin Mary and the Holy Spirit …everything I put into my work is never random each line is a moment a memory a dream …something within me. I aslo added the poppies under the dolls as they are thought of as the flowers of sleep and death …
