i was shooting macros of this lily when this butterfly landed on it :) shot this using a nikon diopter lens attached to a canon 75-300mm lens, if im not mistaken this is a great spangled frilitary
This is a ruby red lacewing butterfly, and the way it had it’s proboscis inserted into the flower made me think of that moment when we first get a nice thick milkshake, and we are sucking hard on the straw, fighting against the frozen delight to extract it’s sweet creaminess!
Gulf Fritillary Butterfly, Agraulis Vanillae is feeding from a blooming flower. / The Gulf Fritillary, Agraulis vanillae, a striking, bright orange butterfly of the family Nymphalidae, subfamily Heliconiinae. These were formerly classified in a separate family, the Heliconiidae or longwing butterflies, and like other longwings this species does have long, rather narrow wings in comparison with other butterflies. It is not closely related to the true fritillaries. It is a medium to large butterfly, with a wingspan of from 6 to 9.5 cm. Its underwings are buff, with large silvery spots. It takes its name from the fact that migrating flights of the butterflies are sometimes seen over the Gulf of Mexico. Dryas iulia (incorrectly spelled julia), commonly called the Julia butterfly or Julia Heliconian, is a species of butterfly (an insect). The sole representative of its genus, the Julia is native from Brazil to southern Texas and Florida, and in summer can sometimes be found as far north as eastern Nebraska. Over 15 subspecies have been described. Its wingspan ranges from 82 to 92 mm, and it is colored orange (brighter in male specimens) with black markings; this species is somewhat unpalatable to birds and belongs to the “orange” Batesian mimic complex (Pinheiro 1996). It feeds on the nectar of flowers including lantana and shepherd’s needle (Scandix pecten-veneris), and its caterpillars form hosts in passion vines including Passiflora affinis and Passiflora lutea (the yellow passionvine) in Texas. The Julia is a fast flier and frequents clearings, paths, and margins of forests and woodlands. The species is popular in butterfly houses because it is long-lived and active throughout the day.
Had the camera set up on the tripod and was shooting away at this gorgeous little pumpkin flower, when along came a bee. Lucky me! Hope you enjoy! Other Categories / Animals / Apes / Architecture / Baby Animals / Bears / Birds / Big Cats / Elephants / Fish / Insects / Macro / Nature / Reptiles

I was trying the macro setting on my 70-300mm lens in a field of flowers surrounded by these buzzing Bumbles. I am definetly going to invest in a dedicated macro lens… any suggestions as to what to get? I use a Canon 400D.

PLEASE READ THIS. “This was the exact moment in time when the Power of almighty God and his great compassion and love, touched a dying Child”. Taken in Kaban Muslim village in Nov 2008. I was ministering in the village along with several mission staff, and a mother brought her almost dead child to me and asked for Prayer. As I held the still body of this little boy in my arms, my thoughts went straight to Jesus. I spoke to teh Mother and all around me that the only one that could save this child now as Jesus. I said I will pray in Jesus name. There were a few unhappy elders around, but decided to agree that I should pray in Jesus name, just to see what would Happen. This was the breakthrough. Kaban village is a Muslim village and under Sheria Law. I simply laid my hand on the child and commanded life and divine health to enter the child and that God would fill this child with his spirit. In Jesus name I prayed. Instantly the child because to move his arms and legs and began to cry. I told the mother Jesus had healed her son, and to take her son and breastfeed him as he was hungry. All saw the Power of Jesus and was witnessed by all in the village. Others then came and many were healed and some openly give their lives to Jesus. others followed us on our way to Ungwa/Fada village and received Jesus in private. Jesus is alive and works in and through his people. He loves you, and that is a fact.
