I have no idea what this flower is but it’s colour and surface reminds me of ice.
Most species are perennial herbs or subshrubs but a few are woody shrubs or small trees. The phyllotaxy is usually opposite and decussate, but leaves have a spiral or alternate arrangement in some groups. As with other members of the Lamiales the flowers have a zygomorphic corolla whose petals are fused into a tube and there is no one character that separates a gesneriad from any other member of Lamiales. Gesneriads differ from related families of the Lamiales in having an unusual inflorescence structure, the “pair-flowered cyme”, but some gesneriads lack this characteristic, and some other Lamiales share it.

A deep red rose laying on icey winter rocks.
Mid-April and we get a considerable covering of snow. Global warming, maybe? It provided a lovely crisp and sunny Sunday morning, but the sun made sure that the wintery scenes were not around for long as the majority of the snow had gone by midday.
The flower seems to have closed up to protect itself from the exceptionally cold April morning we recently experienced. The April sun soon melted the snow and by midday all was clear.
along the tourist trail to Cape Tribulation are a number of ‘must do’ stops-the ice cream here is the best I’ve ever tasted-black sapote, wattle seed, pineapple and passionfruit were the flavours of the day-we went back for seconds. relevance to this exotic plant-well, it was growing in the car park of course!

This is another of the flowers from my show and poems for her. She had a way of bringing the best out in me and I had away of doing that to her too! / She wasn’t one to back down in an argument even though I was two times her size. / She could give it as hard as any guy I knew she was a tuff talking hard hitting momma. / She took it to ya on any subject you wanted to talk but when she did you better come ready for war! / She was in a world of her own when it came to debating it didn’t matter what subject you would discuss. / When she came to the meetings she was always ready she didn’t take any stuff from the men. / You better come with your A game ready or you were gonna get loss in her dust! / She was a woman with legs that could make you go crazy and a top that all the girls wish that they had. / And her hips made any man with in distance shake their heads and wish she was theirs in the bed. / But what she had that was the most impressive was a face that any angle would want. / And her lips where so full that they looked just like pillows that your lips always wanted to touch. / She had it all and she didn’t take any crap she had a head that could solve any problem. / She could look at you and melt your heart and a the same time kick your behind. / She was a woman that knew how to fight and she never took any lip from anyone. / She was a woman that made me go crazy and damn she was my boss.
The beauty and details of nature, close up. The sort of thing you might walk past and never notice.
At the end of my frosty hike i discovered this tiny warm oasis from the frost! it was so peaceful that I could have spent hours down there surrounded by silence and the warmth. with a last look around and sigh i began the long harsh hike but up to the top of the gully. with a saddened heart I left this oasis and ascended but up into the world of frost. I plan on returning to this hidden garden as often as possible year round. :)

Today in southern Louisiana, we experienced a “Christmas miracle” as one lovely RedBubble lady, Sande Elkins, put it—for the first time in 20 years, it snowed here, and our semi-tropical home looked kind of like the North Pole for a few hours. Then, by mid afternoon, Louisiana, as we know it emerged once again with blue sunny skies and bright green grass as though Old Man Winter had not even made a hint of his presence. As I was frolicking in the snow during the short duration it lasted, I came upon my blooming rose bushes, laden with snow and bent close to the ground, and I was struck by the sight of a single flower in the snow. The sight of it reminded me of the Christ Child, how he came in the dead of winter like a fresh bright blossom, like a rose in the snow. My inspiration for this thought came from the lyrics of a song which says, “So many years ago, in Bethlehem, a Baby came like a violet in the snow.” This image is my version of that song. A blessed Christmas to all. May the Christ Child fill you with the fragrance of His love.

The Ice makes a beautiful capture of these yellow roses but it also shows the extent of the ice that blanketed everything in sight recently in a state wide Ice Storm that hit Kentucky Feb09 and paralized my neighborhood and 20 out of 21 counties thru out the state! This photo was shot in our local cemetary which was ice encrusted with inches of Ice! Ice Storm in Western Kentucky – Jan.26-.27-2009 DSLR Sony a200
