  • Amazingly there are 20 species of Magpie in the world. Not quite sure which I have painted here… looks more like an Australian magpie Many people consider them superstitious, they certainly have their place in folklore, some believe they bring good luck, others believe bad. I remember being played Rossini’s Thriving Magpie when I was quite young; it is said they have a panache for shiny, silvery things which they like to steal and hide. / Here the magpie has found a key! I wonder where it came from? I see him as a ‘Keeper of Secrets’. / The selected text comes from a traditional rhyme I was told as a child: One for sorrow, Two for joy, / Three for a girl, Four for a boy, / Five for Silver, Six for Gold / Seven for a secret never to be told This is an acrylic painting on canvas.

  • Kind of makes you feel special :)

Why will it not? / Then all the valley would be pink and white / And soft to tread on. They would fall as light / As feathers, smelling sweet; and it would be / Like sleeping and like waking, all at once! Roses by George Eliot

  • Wallflower / Available as a framed print, canvas print, mounted print and card Wallflower is a continuation of my experiment trying to achieve stained watercolour effect. / I owe some inspiration to Mucha’s flowery illustration style. / Wallflower is much richer as Mucha used soft colours, but with my love for rich colours and as the Wallflower’s feelings are intense, I had to go with the strong;) Image copyright © 2008 Shanina Conway. / Copying and displaying or redistribution of this image without permission from the artist is strictly prohibited.

  • Acrylic On Canvas A piece that was inspired about watching Wong Kar Wai’s film In The Mood For Love, set in 60s Hong Kong. A story about forbidden love and in the story, the female and male leads shared some special moments in room 2046 – writing martial novels :D The chinese title of this movie is Hua Yang Nian Hua. The Chinese title, Huayang Nianhua (translated in the subtitles as “Full Bloom” but more accurately meaning “those wonderful varied years”), is more suggestive of period nostalgia and the Shanghai association, pointing to an iridescent, kaleidoscopic age of bygone elegance and diversity. / You can view and purchase my other “Hua Yang Nian Hua” creations from my Zazzle Gallery: / /

  • Pure Watercolour on Arches 140lb This was a painting done on my recent trip to France. I picked a couple of white roses picked from the garden of the Gite where we stayed. Put them in a glass. Starting from the centre of one rose I worked outwards developing each petal as I went, adding foliage along the way. By turning the roses I could get different views. I prefer to work this way with flowers rather than draw them first, they have a different kind of freedom with a more natural look. They were actually white roses, but I decided to add colour to them, after all, white isn’t always white.
