dingo flour mill North Fremantle Wesrern Australia
Built in 1829 the Maud Foster Mill in Boston is one of the UK’s tallest and finest working windmills. The mill uses wind power to produce flour on a commercial basis – up to three tonnes per week. It’s unusual since it is situated on a residential road, right in the heart of Boston which is a busy English town. It is unusual as normally you would expect to find these things way out in the country.
This is one of the many famous bridges in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Known sometimes as ‘the eye bridge’ , but its proper name is the Millenium Bridge. In the background on the right is the Baltic Flour Mill which is now a contemporary art museum. ( note the little space invader in the upper window) ;) Processed using the same settings and processes as the Brighton Pier picture, that so many of you were very kind with your words about.
Fall arrives at the Cedar Creek Grist Mill in Washington. Built in 1876, it is the only grain grill in WA state that has its original structure. To this day, they grind with stones and is still water powered!

A glimpse of the glacial waters of Dickey Lake, Montana through the aspen.
The glacial waters of Bow Lake in Banff National Park offer rock flour color that is hard to believe.
In order to use the corn or grains for baking they had to be ground into flour. This could be done by mortar and pestle but is very time consuming using this method. Man as far back as the 1st B.C. has used hydropower to help speed up this process. The use of this power came to be known as gristmills. / A water wheel consists of a large wooden or metal wheel, with a number of blades or buckets arranged on the outside rim forming the driving surface. Most commonly, the wheel is mounted vertically. Water turns the wheel then gears and ultimately the grinding stones. They are many verities of this method. / The wheel here at the John Cable Mill in Cades Cove is known as an overshot type. This gets its name from water running over the top of the wheel. This mill wasn’t the 1st in Cades Cove but by 1870 the population was large enough to support another.

Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery The Penitentiary – Port Arthur As Is – Straight from the Camera Easily the most imposing ruin on the site, the Penitentiary began its life in 1843 as a flour mill and granary. In 1857 it was converted into a penitentiary capable of housing over 480 convicts in both dormitory-style accommodation and separate apartments. Also containing a messroom, library and Catholic chapel, the penitentiary was flanked by the Watchmens’ Quarters, as well as a range of workshops and an ablutions complex. Gutted in the 1897 fires, the building lay derelict until a concerted conservation program began in the 1960s. Port Arthur, Tasmania, Australia. The windmill at Ballycopeland, Millisle, County Down. Restored to full working order, this late-18th century corn mill produced both flour and animal feed. The miller’s house and associated buildings gives a unique insight into a lost industry. Although uncertain it is estimated that Ballycopeland windmill was built around the 1780s or 90s, appearing on the first Ordnance Survey maps of the area in 1830s.
A cake is a form of food that is usually sweet and often baked. A flourless chocolate cake is a type of cake made from an aerated chocolate custard. It is prepared with a whole egg foam in a manner similar to a Génoise cake, using low heat from the melted chocolate to stabilize the protein matrix (which contains only the starch naturally present in the chocolate) and then baked in a bain-marie. While traditionally considered a restaurant-style dessert, flourless chocolate cake is also popular for gluten-free diets.
At the suggestion of Sarah I have converted the mill to black and white and wapped up the contrast. It certainly shows up all the peeling paint.
