The original image Flotsam and Jetsam had a small amount of postwork done in a paint program. While doing this I decided to duplicate the layer and play with blending modes, this image was a result of that experimentation.

This shot was taken at dusk of the driftwood on Gillespies Beach, near Fox Glacier, New Zealand. Photoshop used to enhance the sky with a filter. It was taken in summer. This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera. Gillespies Beach is part of the Westland Tai Poutini National Park (established 1960) which extends from the highest peaks of Kā Tiritiri o te Moana/Southern Alps to the remote beaches of the wild West Coast. It is an area of magnificent primeval vistas; snow-capped mountains, glaciers, forests, tussock grasslands, coast, lakes, rivers and wetlands. This world-class scenic landscape has been recognised as such with World Heritage status. This image was featured in the Flotsam and Jetsam Group, 14 days ago.

A3 drawing on cartridge paper with G-Tec C4 0.4 pen, which I’ve since found out draws in a 0.2mm line no wonder they take a long time to do. This drawing is influenced by walking by the Sea in Devon on a very cold wet English summer day!

When you think of flotsam and jetsam, what comes to mind? The seashore..coastlines,oceans,beaches..the normal places. / So it was a surprise when we arrived at Moraine Lake, in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. The lake is one of the most famous in the Rocky Mountain park systems, and a long,long way from any seashore. Very high up, too! But here we found this scene of glacial lake, towering peaks, and a great array of logs which had accumulated at the end of the lake. Since this isn’t in a logging area, being in the heart of a huge National Park, we assumed they result from avalanches, rockslides, wind or ice storms.
