Anclote Key, Florida USA This is the sunset the first night I was hiding out on the island. I’ll admit, I was scared that night and didnt sleep much. I was 2 miles out in the ocean on an island without any protection and Im about 5’6 90 pds. You could throw me. The second my eyes opened to find daylight, I got back into the boat and headed to the ramp where my handgun was in my truck. I got it and back out I went. I intentionally didnt take it with the thought, ‘Im doing all of this to get away from all of THAT’. Thus, I left my piece which left me very vulnerable, scared and unable to enjoy my hiatus! I didnt even entertain the idea I would get out there and get scared. But, I did. Once I got my lil friend, no more worries! I have gotten a lot of bubblemails asking for a sunset. I didnt know I was ‘known for that’ but OK. I am here to please so here you have it! An island sunset! This image is symbolic of the fear and anxiety I was feeling as the sun left me sitting alone on the island. I didnt realize until then that the sun was the friend keeping me company all day. Lord, how I missed her until she came back. I was one scared girl. This is a composite photo taken in Shalimar, FL near the edge of the bay. It was a glorious summer night. I applied the NIK skylight filter to deepen the reds in the picture. I also shot the sun on the same night to the west of the bank. Islamorada Key, Florida USA This image is of an elder man that lives up the gulf from me a little.. I happen to have caught him on his way in from a hard day fishing. We are in a ‘no wake zone’ so I was blessed with the time to to set this shot up! He is very wise, kind and caring. He has a saying that he says very often, bearing in mind he has made his life solely from the sea. Islamorada, Florida USA Flamingos are very common around here and I adore them! A family of about 100 plus live on a small island here called ‘Indian Key’. The island can only be accessed by boat. From boaters visiting the island and feeding/playing with them, they are fairly tame and will get very close to you much like ducks. They seem to have no fear of humans as they will rub their beak on your lens while you shoot if you dont watch out. Very curious animals. Marathon Key, Florida USA LARGE VIEW is much better! A Sunset; by request! The Seven-Mile Bridge is located at mile markers 40-47 in the Florida Keys. Although this isn’t a traditional attraction, it’s the only way you’re going to get to Key West, and it’s also one of the wonders of Florida! While it falls a bit short of seven miles, this amazing span bridges the Middle and Lower Keys and has nearly 40 expansion joints. As you cross, with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, you can see the Old Seven Mile Bridge, now on the National Register of Historic Places. Naples, Florida USA LARGE VIEW, please – for detail As I walked around the hotel this morning enjoying my Iced Mocha Coffee; watching – waiting – anticipating – on a job… I was becoming restless. Always having my camera worn as a necklace – I came across this flirty little feller. I named him Tommy. He had a confident personality and was curious about the camera and playful around me! Thats always a good thing! Also – I had read an article that I wont mention because I wouldnt recommend that site to my worst enemy but I digress. The article was regarding CENTERING IMAGES can sometimes be a wonderful effect! I wanted to give it a go here. I love the ol’ rule of the thirds but have to admit… sometimes centering an image is not only the RIGHT thing to do but it also gives terrific control in pulling the viewers eyes to the subject! He landed right in front of me with this expression as if to say ‘Morning, Miss. Im Tommy… hope you have a Kick Ass day’! He seemed to enjoy having me around and I certainly wasnt running him off – quite the poser! The morning light – those priceless hours – were working for us! It was right after dusk when the morning was about the turn to full-on day. / Admittedly – I am new to macro since getting the XTi so please consider that when viewing. Also – I dont edit yet but I am starting to play in PS – just havent got it down and feel uncomfortable with images after I use it. So I dont – but soon will. I am going to commit to it. Probably in the way of taking a class at the Miami Community College. This was actually shot with a TELEPHOTO lens – as that was the lens I had on for nature or any wildlife I may have ran across. Besides – the right telephoto lens can make for a Kick Ass Macro lens! Having the XTi – anything is possible – that in and of itself pushing my limits and is dramatically broadening my horizons. I am so grateful I chose this piece (Canon Rebel XTi) of equipment and would recommend it to anyone! I sincerely hope Y’all can see some growth taking place in my photography – hopefully even in my horizons – in general – would be killer! Islamorada, Florida USA Shot at sunrise from the upstairs master bedroom balcony – what I saw when I opened my eyes! Here – a storm comes in as obviously as friends coming down your drive way! Its coming! Nothing you can do now but ride it out! Welcome to Florida – where it pours rain in your front yard – yet your back yard doesnt even get a lick! I dont allow my boys to go into the ocean AT ALL – but there is plenty of room for them to boat around and have fun so that I can still SEE them from the house. We live in like a cove that goes out into the ocean – very safe. This would be a NO BOAT day for the kiddies! They like to go out to that lil island out there and do whatever it is boys do? Islamorada, Florida USA LARGE view – Please! This fella likes our yard and I like him so I thought I would show everyone how cute and flirty he is! Also – a little about the species I feel we all should know to stay safe! Squirrels can be trained to be hand-fed. Because they are able to cache surplus food, they will take as much food as is available. Squirrels living in parks and campuses in cities have learned that humans are typically a ready source of food. Hand feeding is not recommended, however, because squirrels may carry plague or other animal-borne diseases. Even if they do not carry disease, they often have a hard time telling fingertips from food, and bites are painful. Squirrels are occasionally kept as household pets, provided they are selected young enough and are hand raised in a proper fashion. They can be taught to do tricks, and are said to be as intelligent as dogs in their ability to learn behaviors. In these cases, a large cage and a balanced diet with good variety will keep a pet squirrel healthy and happy. As a pet, the owner must be aware of “spring fever” at which time a female pet squirrel will become very defensive of her cage, thinking of it as her nest, and will become somewhat aggressive to defend the area. Squirrels are often the cause of power outages. They can readily climb a power pole and crawl across a power line. The animals will climb onto transformers or capacitors looking for food. They touch a high voltage conductor and a grounded portion of the device at the same time, they are then electrocuted to death which causes a short circuit that shuts down equipment. Squirrels have brought down the high-tech NASDAQ stock market twice!
