The Sea Venture was one of the first ships to arrive in Bermuda. It was thrown accidentally off course by a hurricane and landed on the reefs intact. Its original course was with a fleet from England headed towards / Jamestown, Virginia to aid in the colonization. From being shipwrecked, the crew and passengers of the Sea Venture settled in Bermuda and benefitted from its tropical paradise and set up a small colony. This painting is a Mixed Media piece, combining original digital photography taken in Bermuda by SBC, painting, and drawing. It is intended to capture the natural and surreal beauty of Bermuda. It won an Honorable Mention Award in the Rowayton Art Show in 2006 and First Place in the Darien Art Show in 2007.

‘Iliki’ Spirit of Aloha is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper using ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal. My darling ‘Illiki’ was inspired by James Michener’s novel ‘Hawaii’ and the beautiful young hawaiian girl who is one of the charming characters early on in the story. I was completely swept away during the reading of this incredible novel, highly recommended reading :D I think that the song Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’Ole really relates to the story …. as his melancholy voice is so melodically accompanied by the ukelele….. it reminds me of the story of Iliki the young hawaiian girl, who leaves her island when still very young…. forever she haunted the mind of the young minister missionary who tended her and taught her in his first days on the island, he forever wondered how she was faring in the civilised world, having been taken away on a ship by the white men. He felt a certain special kind of fatherly love for this girl, and it tore his heart that she was so clever and cottoned on so well to the new english language, and customs he would teach her, as well as the scriptures…but she was a wild thing, and never one to be ‘pigeon-holed’ or contained… he set her free and never saw her again. Waterdrop reflection series Osteospurnum flowers come in many colours, but this variety, “Nasinga Cream” is a pretty creamy white, with unusual spoon shaped petals. / /
