I have found a local florist who has allowed me to take photos of her flowers. I was happy to send her some of my shots for her own use. So if you don’t have any in your garden why not approach the local florist!!

Large yellow lady’s slipper orchids are now in full bloom near Fort Frances in northwestern Ontario. These were photographed in evening shade. Large Yellow Lady’s Slipper / (Cypripedium pubescens var. pubescens) Flowers: Summer; Yellow; Irregular Flowers; Bright yellow, pouch shape. Petals (behind the “slipper”) are green (Small Yellow Lady’s Slipper (Cypripedium parviflorum) has reddish petals). Late spring – early summer. / Height: 1-2 feet / Habitat: Moist woods, bogs. Status: Uncommon, but common compared to other Lady’s Slipper orchids. But in some places it is extremely common. / Notes: There are two varieties of this orchid: Large Yellow Lady’s Slipper and Small Yellow Lady’s Slipper (Cypripedium parviflorum). When you find this orchid, do not disturb it. DO NOT transplant it – it will likely not survive. Featured at “Only Orchids” – January 22, 2009.
