I have also used a variety of found objects, including lace and ribbons…and an especially beautiful gold paint for the wings which were underpainted first to created texture. On of my favourite paintings, my heart and soul went into this piece…two sweet little girls in darling dresses hanging out in the garden together….what could be nicer.

Ellie is an fun little piece i did a while ago, I used a crackle medium in this one to add to the texture and interest, also ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal were involved in the process…. /

This was taken in Gainesville, Florida. The butterfly is a tree nymph (Idea leuconoe) and the plant is a butterfly bush (appropriately!). As with many of my other shots, the effects here were all created in-camera with a -2 exposure composition and the subject in bright natural light in front of a shaded background. 100% of the profits from the sale of this image will be donated to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Mountain ash are the tallest flowering plant on earth. Before logging became widespread there were even documented cases of 100m plus high trees. I photographed these beauties on Mt Donna Buang in the Yarra Valley outside of Melbourne. As a drum teacher I teach in five different schools every week, thursday being my Upper Yarra Secondary College day. I particularly look foreward to thursdays for the post school jaunt I inevitably do. The Yarra Valley is truly a valley of wonders containing beautiful forests, snow capped peaks (in winter), waterfalls, caves, vineyards and numerous basalt outcrops. A truly special place. I found this Grass tree (Xanthorrhoea australis) at Half Way Hut at Wilsons Promontory NP after the 2005 bush fires. The Grass tree like many Australian plants needs fire to propagate effectively. Under normal conditions it is rare for the flower to form, after fire however it is a different story with every grasstree in sight sporting an amazing ‘kangaroo tail’ from its mop. Usually they are straight as a die so to find such a shapely specimen really grabbed my attention. Finding a nice angle with which to show it off proved a little more problematic. After much chin scratching and walking around in circles I ended up with my back in the dirt where I eventually found a nice juxtaposition of the ‘tail’ with the sky without trees intruding into the frame in inappropriate spots… click. I took this picture in my front yard to finish off a film and to my great surprise I loved the result. It is of a Soft tree fern, Dicksonia antarctica. In dreams, trees are the symbols of individual growth and development through life. Roots are the foundation: strong and deep means connection with spiritual source; shallow is poor support, unaware of inner strength. The trunk represents the backbone or source of strength. Limbs are talents and abilities, opportunities for self expression. The leaves are the many manifestations of your gifts, the results of flowering or producing in the world. This tree was photographed on Paradise Island, in the Bahamas and was a spot we loitered around alot while there for a week…a most powerful teacher and a magnificent standing person.
