This was painted from a sketch and photograph back home after returning while travelling on a healing journey from Qld to Alice Springs in 2002 Instead of going on a ‘proper;’holiday after a traumatic few years I decided I just had to see the Centre of our beautiful country …so …we just jumped into the car, 4×4 and slept in the back ,cooking with one frypan over a small gas fire rested on the tailboard ,most times I slept on the ground next to the car bcause i didn’t like being confined. Can you feel the coolness in this shot….? Taken in almost pitch blackness and between rain showers…Sometimes, while on location I think – what the hell am I doing here ?...cold, grey, wet, waves threatening to wash me off the rocks !! / This shot re-enforces to me why I do it and why I keep going back for more and more…...

Sister shot to the one below…I do like this vertical version as the flow tends to lead the eye around the shot…well it does for me anyway.. Taken last week during a dawn visit to the coast near Flinders ~ Victoria. / We’ve been getting some good changeable weather lately which beats the hell out of sunny fine weather…imo….....cheers for recent comments…rgs, Rob….

As the unpredictable and unrelenting waves crash in from the coast at sunset, I photographed this just before getting absolutely saturated…for the second time. / It was well worth it to see and experience the power of the ocean, even though it was a long trip home in wet clothes. / This was shot at 10mm. I kept returning to this spot, night after night, sometimes it was raining or misty and other nights were simply ideal though a tad chilly … This spectacular natural rock arch, sculpted by weathering and erosion from the sea over thousands of years is well worth visiting. Here you can also observe a colony of New Zealand Fur-seals as they feed, swim and laze on the shore platform below. If you cannot see them you can sure smell them ! Pastel on Colourfix paper – 70cm x 50cm I did this pastel painting following a trip to the Flinders Ranges a few years ago. This had all the elements I love – water, a nice mix of warm and cool colours and a challenge (i.e. getting the ‘look’ of shallow water)!!
