A salute to my favourite INXS song “Johnson’s Aeroplane”. “From a small aeroplane, you can see the sea. Lots of blue, very deep blue”. This week I had the incredible luck of flying in a 4 seater plane and having my first try at aerial photography – great fun!! It was such a fantastic day and Perth was looking its best on a 27 degree spring day. Thanks heaps to Malcolm the pilot, Mum and Dad!! :))) For enquires about canvas prints, or photographic prints larger than Redbubble options, please contact me via bubblemail

been reading about tribal child raising and the benefits, and we know I like birds… I began this art as abstract patterns, bubbles of pattern that transformed when I realised by putting a ‘fork in the road’ to the concentric circles, that I created an eye and beak. Before that, it could’ve been shown either way up. also, it transformed from earthy brown colours, to a colourful bird. ‘Is it art? ‘my teacher used to always question. He’s not here now. He’s just asking the question still! in my head! I like it-it’s bright, colouful and alive.

Southern Gannets in close to the rocks feeding on cuttlefish and squid. The image is a composite all shot within 30 minutes. It is an initial long exposure with a wide angle lens. The birds were then shot at the same location in the same session with a telephoto lens and “dropped in” during post processing.

Sea gulls against an ocean wave.
But more wonderful than the lore of old men and the lore of books is the secret lore of ocean. Blue, green, gray, white or black; smooth, ruffled, or mountainous; that ocean is not silent. All my days have I watched it and listened to it, and I know it well. At first it told to me only the plain little tales of calm beaches and near ports, but with the years it grew more friendly and spoke of other things; of things more strange and more distant in space and time. Sometimes at twilight the gray vapors of the horizon have parted to grant me glimpses of the ways beyond; and sometimes at night the deep waters of the sea have grown clear and phosphorescent, to grant me glimpses of the ways beneath. And these glimpses have been as often of the ways that were and the ways that might be, as of the ways that are; for ocean is more ancient than the mountains, and freighted with the memories and the dreams of Time. This is a Sea King Helicopter belonging to 771 Squadron S&R, RNAS Culdrose, Helston, Cornwall. They had just done a display with the Lifeboats at the Dawlish Air Show, 20/08/09. I have added a texture to this as the sky did not look very good and wanted to give it more impact. I think I have done ok. / What do you think? Be honest please. Anyway, thank you for looking. / Hope you like it. Best Viewed Large. Pentax K110D. / Sigma 70-300 macro @ 210mm / f/11. / Iso 400. / 1/350th.

This is Noosa North Shore, looking North towards the coloured sand cliffs, and Double Island Point. The cliffs are on fire, and much of the precious sand dune cover is going to be lost. Errosion is inevitable, possibly from an irresponsible camper lighting fires in a total fire ban, or the back-burning error made by the councils. Smoke can be seen to the left of this shot, limiting visibility along the beach. Still, this is one of the most beautiful places I have been, and the wildlife here, with the many eagles is just magical to witness. Even the pipi birds, gannets, terns, and seagulls (a seagull in flight in this shot) are awe inspiring! Canon 5D Mk II, 35mm, 16:9 crop. Available very large, and best viewed large!
I wanted to create something that conveyed what I was thinking when when my mind wanders. This happens when I’m in meetings with people with monotoned voices droning on about mood boards and focus groups. If I could make a painting of how I feel and where I would love to be right now, this would be it. I hope you like it. Framed Print / Canon 5D, 17-40mm at 17mm (cropped), f/20, 1/200 sec, ISO 100.
