Click on the images below for a more detailed close-up / / “Finches On Parade” is about the communal abstract chatter that one encounters when in amongst a crowd of like-minded personalities. / I have chosen not to emphasize the precise detail of each bird but rather their general shape as they caper around, to give the impression of constant movement. This was just a lucky catch. My wife got some tulips for her birthday and I took one out as the sun was setting to try a get a nice shot. I put the vase down & as soon as I turned my back I heard the hummer behind me, I turned back around and had time to get off one shot before he realized he wasn’t interested in tulips. Often when I’m out with my camera I will just sit for a while and watch… Nature has some amazing things to teach us, if we are only willing to pay attention… As humans we often “over think” things; we try so hard to do something that we end up overanalyzing it and not doing it at all. I watched this ladybug for a bit as she climbed up this plant, probably looking for aphids or some other bug to eat, and when she got to the end of the stick, without hesitation she decided she was ready to fly and she did it (good thing I was right there or I would have totally missed the shot). Sometimes I think that her method is the best way to approach things… Decide you want to do something, and just do it. No overthinking or overanalyzing, no self-doubts or second guessing… Just open your wings and fly. Just my thoughts for the day. :) This shot was taken at a botanical garden in Gainesville, Florida. 100% of the profits from the sale of this print will be donated to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

been reading about tribal child raising and the benefits, and we know I like birds… I began this art as abstract patterns, bubbles of pattern that transformed when I realised by putting a ‘fork in the road’ to the concentric circles, that I created an eye and beak. Before that, it could’ve been shown either way up. also, it transformed from earthy brown colours, to a colourful bird. ‘Is it art? ‘my teacher used to always question. He’s not here now. He’s just asking the question still! in my head! I like it-it’s bright, colouful and alive.

A salute to my favourite INXS song “Johnson’s Aeroplane”. “From a small aeroplane, you can see the sea. Lots of blue, very deep blue”. This week I had the incredible luck of flying in a 4 seater plane and having my first try at aerial photography – great fun!! It was such a fantastic day and Perth was looking its best on a 27 degree spring day. Thanks heaps to Malcolm the pilot, Mum and Dad!! :)))

This shot recently recieved 2nd place, out of nearly 3000 entries in a February ‘08 contest on another photosite. So now we can reveal how we did it. This is actually three separate shots of the same female Calytpe Anna hummingbird in three different positions as she hovered to approach and land on the feeder. I layered each shot over each other, aligned the feeder, masked & blended each layer to expose each bird and merged them all into one image to give the appearance of three separate hummingbirds lined up at the feeder. Work done with Corel PSP-XI
