  • Taken in October of 2006 from the Middle Fork of the Flathead River looking into Glacier NP. It was a perfect day. I hope to repeat it a few times this year.

  • Just a simple little ranch house I spotted from the road in the North Fork area of the Flathead River near Polebridge in NW Montana.

  • The title is no exaggeration! This bloke was incredible! I spotted him whilst on one of my autumn sunset walks along the Town Green, on south bank of the Hastings River in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia. All I said to him was, “G’day mate.” and he launched off into an informal lesson in the art of flathead fishing. I was there for about half an hour following him as he worked the shallows, making about twenty five shots as he plied his line and as the sun was setting. In all that time he kept me enthralled with hints, tips and little anecdotes about his approach to fishing for these tasty fish. Not only did he know his stuff but he was all decked out with all the gear. He is a real conservationist who only uses biodegradable hooks and lures and only keeps enough for a feed. He told me that flathead can either be hooked around the mouth or they suck the whole rig into their gut. He releases the ones which are caught around the mouth but keeps the others as they would die anyway. He really knows his stuff and fished the tidal river weed beds expertly. / I hope to catch up with him again one day. What I really like about the final result is the well defined partial silhouettes, the composition, the warm sunset colours and the rower, fishing boat and interesting background in the scene. This photograph was made with my old workhorse Mr Fuji, a Fuji S5500 4Mp camera and was processed in Photoshop CS. Find out more about Fishing in Port Macquarie if you wish. • Getting up in the middle of the night during my honeymoon for a bathroom run without my glasses on, I couldn’t see much but figured that the moon MUST be pretty on the lake, judging from the amount of light shining in through the sliding glass doors! After stepping outside and leaning against a beam to take the picture, my LCD screen at close range confirmed that it was indeed beautiful! : ) Flathead Lake, Montana (near Bigfork)

  • Autumn at Clayton Lake in the Jewel Basin of the Flathead National Forest, Montana

  • Prints available in five sizes at KOTYBEAR.COM Hungry Horse Reservoir in the Flathead National Forest Montana. Distant view to the east is of the Flathead Range and the Great Bear Wilderness, Montana.

  • Flathead River and the Old River Bridge outside of West Glacier at Glacier National Park, Montana. /

  • Front view of a Mercury Flathead V8 taken in Spanish Fork, Utah. Camera: Panasonic DMC-TZ5.

  • Taken on an April 4 outing, and my first lesson in photography from my son, Shaun. He took some beautiful panorama shots, which will be uploaded to his gallery soon. You can all see why I’ve been complaining about snow in the Spring here. These are part of the Rocky Mountains, at the edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and a few miles south of Glacier National Park. The river is the main branch of the Flathead, which flows out of the Park. 11/15/09 – Featured in the MONTANA Group.

  • This was taken behind the fountain at Woodland Park, in Kalispell, Montana. It was a very hot day and the trees and mist from the fountain provided a welcome reprieve. Woodland park was originally part of the Charles Conrad estate and is located near the historic Conrad Mansion. At one time he had a herd of American bison grazing there.

  • My son, Shaun’s, car broke down for a month, so we had to walk everywhere, which turned out to be a blessing. We enjoyed it so much that we still walk when the weather is nice. We’ve gotten into the habit of bringing the cameras along when we walk to the store. It we drove every day, we would have missed skies like this. 10/3/09, featured in the MONTANA Group.

  • Another sunset photo, but at least there are no trees in it. I took this squatted down at the side of the road. I am so tired of my sunset photos with nothing but trees. Photo taken in Columbia Falls, Montana. This makes a beautiful desktop, so I’ve enabled the download at my deviantart gallery here: http://rocamiadesign.deviantart.com/art/Fields-of-Golden-Grain-127484077 Just click on the “Download” link on the upper left side.

  • After endless shots of sunsets over the same trees, we decided to take our evening walk in the other direction. We still ended up taking pictures at a cemetery, but this one was more interesting. Photo taken at St. Richard’s Catholic Cemetery in Columbia Falls, Montana.

  • “Tides of Heaven” was taken at sunset, with the clouds pouring over Columbia Mountain like crashing waves. This is a cropped version of the wallpaper that I uploaded to deviantart, which can be downloaded here: http://rocamiadesign.deviantart.com/art/Tides-of-Heaven-125913229 Press the download link on the upper left to get the higher resolution version. I’ve had requests for prints on it and felt that the cropped version had a nicer, minimalistic feel to it.

  • Photo taken in Woodland Park in Kalispell, Montana. This was taken on the other side of the fountain that was shown in Cool Sanctuary. My son, Shaun, pointed out to me that if I squatted down, the rainbow would appear. Unfortunately, this was the only one of all of our photos where the rainbow showed clearly.

  • This was taken at Woodland Park in Kalispell, Montana. These ruins sit on a hill overlooking the park. Nobody knows what they used to be, but they have been utilized as a modern canvas for unknown artists.

  • Another beautiful Montana sunset, captured on one of our walks to the grocery store. Montana is refered to, by the locals, as “Big Sky Country”.

  • Found in our neighborhood. It was a nice change from tree silhouettes. Montana seems to have a lot of these little windmills, as well as the bigger ones for harvesting electricity. The electric co-ops buy your extra electricity. 09/17/09 – Featured in the SILHOUETTES Group. 11/02/09 – Featured in the MONTANA Group.
