  • Traveling along Route 50, “The Lonliest Road in America,” there were plenty of beautiful sights to see. Reminiscent of the Wild West, this photograph contains an old gold mining cart, an old wagon wheel, an old metal flask and a skull, which would probably date back to the mid 1800’s. This photograph was taken in a small town in northern Nevada with a Canon XT and a 75mm lens.

  • This is a particularly cool one. I wanted a hip flask, one that contours to your hip and is also cool looking - “doubly hip” - ever since I saw my great, great uncle Charlie’s when I was about 6. I felt such an honor when he would ask me to refill it, usually from someone else’s bottle. / I never saw my uncle Charlie sober but that was a long time ago – he was already ancient when I was born, long before alcoholism was a disease. Uncle Charlie lived a long time, lived through the days of Jake leg, through the days of Stagger Lee and Billy DeLyon and through knife wounds, gun shots and a host of other dangers that would fell lesser mortals. I miss my uncle Charlie, mostly his stories and tips for beating the odds and the devil—specifically beating the devil with odds and beating the odds with the help of the devil. I’m glad, I didn’t idolize his ways, but I did take a shine to his flask and finally got one several years ago. It contours to my hip and it does look cool. My Uncle Charlie’s flask once stopped a bullet and didn’t leak a drop – I suspect mine will never be so tested. It does, however, make it through security at every music festival I been to in the past several years.
