a close up of a large painting, with lots of butterflies. It’s the first time I’m done something very light-I wanted something with standout features and a vast expanse of white-but I need it to be lush, soft and velvet. I’ve done well with acrylics so far and tar gel…but oil paint may need to be called in!

Acrylic and Mixed Media / Painted by Ciska 03/2008 / ORIGINAL SOLD / 76.2cm x 101.6cm Leaping and flapping their spread wings, a majectic pair of mated adult brolgas reinforce their bond with an elaborate and enthusiastic courtship dance. Comprising intricate sequences of coordinated bows, theatrical jumps, runs and short flights, dancing is the most spectacular of all the brolga’s social behaviours.

My origami calendar I used to love collecting these plastic eggs (they can be handy as back massagers!) I folded this bird while RB was “enjoying a brief hiatus” today (July 3, 2008), from a 15×15mm piece of paper that I colored with a gold pen; didn’t want to get too small otherwise I would need a smaller egg. I stuck the tail to the inside of the egg shell with double sided tape. Here’s to a moment of excitement when opening a little present! Often my life feels like this – like a lively, bright red thread, flying through a vast, dirty and decaying world. Sometimes it zooms about as if on some frantic search, and other times it just floats wherever the wind carries it, but always there is the sense that I don’t belong. A mallard duck about to take flight in Lake Ontario Toronto Canada
I decided to turn my camera from the peaceful flotilla of ducks on the lake to those engaged in more frenetic action! I found it much more fun and a lot more exciting, not to mention challenging to freeze this action! I really loved watching the energetic flapping of this duck after it emerged from the water. It’s really amazing to see the intricacies of their plumage!
This duck really wanted to have his picture taken, ;-). Taken at Denver Zoo in February 2008. No editing, exactly as it came out of the camera.

African Elephant, treated in Photoshop Taken in Shimba Hills, Kenya Whilst on Safari in Kenya we stopped to watch this African Elephant. It appeared to become agitated and started flapping its ears and moving toward us. Our guide did’nt seem concerned, but I was very relieved when he backed off. The final in this series.. Back watching the ladybirds from Mt Burr again today. As the sun finally came out after days of crisp cold and rain they began to move about, climb and eventually take off for places unknown. Watching them today I couldn’t help but think of how many lessons they could teach. This one showed me that often you just have to keep on flapping and eventually it will happen…takeoff… There are many defining moments in our lives. Let them define you or flap hard and define them yourself….. What amazing creatures they are! Canon 400D 18-55 with two stage extension tubes. Processed in photoshop CS3.
Ladybirds again from the Mt Burr area. More flowers taken out to them recently and they blend so well with the colours. Shot taken within the Mt Burr Forest, South East South Australia. Canon 400D 18-55 lens with three stage extension tubes.
Included in this collage are roseate spoonbills, a little blue heron, a tricolor heron, cattle egrets, and great egrets, all of them flapping vigorously. I took these photos at Jefferson Island, Louisiana. The rookery there is alive and well and thriving as you can see!
