Taken with a Nikon D70s I got to witness a flamingo bathing this afternoon. I had no idea what an ordeal it was and how beautiful it could be. Quite a lengthy process, that included many beautiful stages. I was lucky to capture a few poses. This is one of them. Cleansing

I was fascinated at the way the flamingos contorted their bodies as they were preening, taken at the flamingo lake at Paignton Zoo, Devon, UK., just before sunset and the warm golden reflections of the sun on the lake made the perfect contrast to the pink feathers of the flamingos. Taken at Celestun in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula these flamingos are feeding in amazing numbers in a tidal estuary flanked by mangrove forests… tho there used to be even more until some recent hurricanes dispersed some of the breeding groups to elsewhere… more details here Taken with a compact camera as I was not confident in taking my new dslr afloat on a boat trip yet! Pity tho – an opportunity well and truly missed! And here is a shot of a mangrove pool in the nearby forest /

I spent hours with these amazing Birds in south Africa , i spent more time looking at them than taking photos , they are truly amazing birds.

Sometimes I’m so afraid of making the wrong decision … that I choose not to choose. Lucky for me, David seems to have the same tendencies. Sometimes the two of us remind me of the two flamingos in this photograph. We look like we’re out shaken a tail feather, but actually we’re just being really careful where we step. Or maybe … it’s the other way around, maybe all the careful stepping is really just our own imperfect funky flamingo dance, who knows? Beautiful pink Flamingos standing together. Taken on a bright sunny day in Singapore, July 2008. Settings and camera – Canon 5D and 100-400mm lens, f8, ISO 200, AV mode, exposure 2 x stops under to darken background and bring out pink in flamingos. Minor cloning to two areas in background to remove green tree spots.
