Gaza, Palestine: A young Palestinan boys holds his country’s flag in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
This image is dedicated to all our miliary men and women who have fought and are currently fighting so we may have freedom. Sept.11, 2001 was 6 years ago today. A day the world will never forget. Many brave men and woman gave their all. Let us not ever forget them…
This photo was taken from the moon roof of my car as it was raining. That day I had gone out to take some photos and the flags were at half staff because of the death of a soldier in Iraq. It reminded me of 9-11 which we remember today and it seemed like tears from heaven. Such a sad day in our history plus a sad day still for families that still lose loved ones. We will never forget 9-11 and those that died needlessly due to terrorism. Also those that went to serve, protect and to heal we pay tribute to those that gave their lives’ that day.

This is just so sad to me, that families can not even get a sense of closure and have a place to mourn the loss of their family member. Any US Veterans Cemetary is just littered with these gravemarkers for Unkown Soldiers. How can you give it all for your country, and then not even be recognized by name? Captured this antique Ford being serviced in Williams, Arizona. Eddie’s Tires is located right on historic Route 66. / I like seeing old cars still in their pre-restored state, and this one was a beauty! Almost felt you were driving down Rt.66 in it’s hayday, and this would have been a common sight. / This is an HDR image, then applied the dodge & burn technique which I just learnt about and just had to try.

Union Colonel Johnson looks down to the Valley below, as his troops secure the perimeter for the ensuing night. The last days’ battles resulted in significant casualties on both sides. Col. Johnson settles down at his field desk to write the following report: / / “Headquarters Couch’s Division,”Williamsburg, Va., May 8, 1862. “Sir, I have the honor to report that at 1 o’clock P.M., of May 5, the head of my Division, consisting of Peck’s Brigade only, arrived on the ground in rear of the center of our line of battle, and was by direction of General Keyes, posted by me supporting him, he being fiercely engaged. Peck soon moved forward, and for an hour and a half was opposed by nearly the whole of the enemy’s disposable force in front, covered the assaults of their infantry and cavalry, / but the determined courage of this Fort Magruder, distant 400 to 600 yards, with its plunging fire of shells and grape gallant officer and the steadiness of his brigade foiled all attempts to drive him from the ground. “The left of the 55th New York was twice forced back, but the 93rd Pennsylvania and the 72nd New York Volunteers, coming up furiously, recovered the space lost. *There was very little faltering, and I beg to say to the General / commanding that I want no higher earthly honor than to be the Commander of the First Division of this Corp. *The list of casualties were: Peck’s Brigade, killed, 18; wounded, 81; missing, 26. Deven’s Brigade, 1 killed and 2 wounded. Artillery detachment, 1 wounded. Total loss, 19 killed, / 84 wounded and 26 missing. Image created via layering 3 images total. My art with 1000+ views

As some of you know, I was born and raised in Germany. Moved to the US in 1984, and have loved living here ever since. A couple of years ago I stumbled upon a story about a German submarine (U-85), that was sunk off of the North Carolina coast by USS Roper 4/14/1942. The circumstances that caused all Germans to be lost (killed) remain rather questionable, but I guess those are the horros of war. During my research about the U-85, I came across Ann Davis. She has spent years getting the US & German government to replace the headstones of the Germans with ones more fitting to be in a Veterans Cemetery. I am very thankful for her work in this regard. I gave her a framed print of this image as a gift of my gratitude and she literally was moved to tears. UPDATE: A fellow artist Angel Perry has submitted this image to the prestigious Pay-It-Forward Group citing the following: / “He created this image with heartfelt commitment on getting all the names and research accurate. Not only is it a wonderful tribute to all the men who lost their lives; it’s a great Memorial for the families to cherish for a lifetime. His skills as an artist have grown right in front of our eyes and this image speaks volumes.” Thank you so much Angel, that is very much appreciated. About this image: / The submarine is a picture of U-995, taken by me last year. The U-995 is a type VII-C submarine, and is an exhibit at the Submariners Museum in Kiel (Laboe), Germany. The U-995 is the only remaining surviving type VII in the world. The U-85 was a type VII-B (both very similar in appearance). The ocean scene was a shot I took in NC, near where the U-85 still remains submerged to this day. The tombstone image was taken during Memorial Day 2008, it was touching to see that each German grave also had a small German flag (and a US flag as well). All images were layered and combined into one. I then added the names of the crew with tombstones on top, the ones lost forever at see are below the submarine. If you’d like to read a detailed account of incidents leading to her sinking click here To view images from the cemetery, including the burial which was conducted at night?, please click here Many thanks to Ann Davis for her tireless effort in years passed (she actually has written a book called “Time Will Tell” about the German graves), and also to Michael Bermingham with his assistance on researching discrepancies with several crew members. Image best viewed in Large, although names still are a bit difficult to read. Full-screen on my laptop this looks awesome! My art with 1000+ views
Peace Flags provide you with a special way to express some of the most important issues of the heart. In words or pictures, one can convey positive wishes for one’s self, family, friends, community and the World. One may wish to convey something individually concerning health, success, prosperity or affirm a concept one would like to see manifested in the world like peace, cooperation, equality, understanding, compassion and love. Let your imagination connect to what matters most to you. / According to Ancient tradition, prayers printed on the flags are carried on the wind. The traditional flags are blue/ Sky, white/for Air or Clouds, red /for Fire, green/ Water and yellow/ Earth. Carried On The Wind Is Offered For World Peace Whether one believes in a religion or not, and whether one believes in rebirth or not, there isn’t anyone who doesn’t appreciate kindness and compassion…... / Quote from The Dalai Lama Painting using acrylics, inks and enamels – 102×42cm
Ummm…. I expect to get nasty emails from Americans over this.
The Venice , Florida fishing Pier is the place to see . This 700 foot fishing pier is connected to Sharky’s on the Pier, the only waterfront restaurant in the Venice area. Officially the fishing pier is part of Brohard Park, which encompasses 67 acres of beautifully preserved beaches and uncultivated land along Harbor Drive. . Surprisingly, even though the fishing pier is centrally located in Brohard Park, it still manages to maintain the image of a down to earth place to spend an afternoon on this barrier island and fishing in the Gulf of Mexico waters. / canon 5D mark ll / canon 40mm / ISO 100 / 1/125 f/7.1 / C.P. filter /
