In practice it meant that artists had to produce works glorifying the leaders and policies of the Soviet Union. Art effectively became a form of propaganda.Posters and paintings works in Style later known as Socialist Realism sympathetic to the communist government include partisans, hammers, sicle, stars and industrial or agricultural landscapes were popular subjects, glorifying the achievements of the Soviet economy.Artists who could not work within the boundaries of Socialist Realism were send to the labor camps. • Well, I’m not a big flag waver, but I do have a lot of respect for my country. We have our problems just like everybody else, but we do stand for freedom. Freedom to express ourselves without worrying about reprisals. Which it what I’m doing here. I know a lot of you are not from the US and that’s fine. A lot of your ancestors migrated here over the past 200 years or so and that’s what makes this a great country – the diversity. I salute our soldiers who are defending freedom, as well as our allies who partner with them. May the Lord keep them from harm’s way. And may He continue to bless this great country – the USA. This is an image of Courthouse Rock in Sedona Arizona. I took the image of the flag on a recent trip to California. Using a Photoshop technique called Displacement Mapping I branded the US flag to the rock. Hope you like! Add me to your watch list now / My Bubblesite

  • With the global economy caught in the gravity of the financial crisis, it’s sad that programs like the Constellation Project will have a long wait before anything truly gets off the ground. / / NASA’s Constellation Project is set up to finish the International Space Station, retire the Shuttle Fleet and build a whole new fleet of space vehicles which will take us back to the Moon, then Mars and then the places beyond. / / But with Congressional limitations and funding cutbacks due to the financial crisis, as well as being stuck with a complicated and restrictive “go as you pay” finance structure it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any groundbreaking manned space flights in the naughties. / / This image represents a fleeting memory of a childhood dream to see man explore our planets and then the stars beyond and it’s one of the few things as a child I looked up to America for. / / The universe is a big place and we’re yet to make it out of our solar system but without programs like the Constellation Project, man may never ever get to make another giant leap. / / DETAIL / / / /
