I’ve been wanting to photograph this wall for some time.
Shot near Smith Street Fitzroy Victoria January 2008
Looking more like buildings in Venice, this corner in / inner city Melbourne has buildings with fantastic patina / and texture and a lot of character. / Melbourne 28.3.08
A great portrait is made before the shutter clicks To see a glimpse of their persona / is the essences of a great portrait
well the plan was to go ‘after’ work to watch my daughter play ‘Tough’ (like australian football?) but i thought i ‘quickly’ check out my friends on the ‘Oval’ too! cause that’s been a while….and when they saw me they where calling me straight away..they where very happy to see me and Susanne ‘big mama’ introduced me to the mob…it was all very nice and we where all chatting together, Susanne asked me ‘when can I tell u storie Miss’ oh no I forgot pen and paper..again..well u make some photos ok from other mob, ...so i did..the baby, the kids ,the uncles..Susanne was rubbing some tabacco with some dried bark together in her hands and put in in her mouth on the side and started sucking and chewing on it…next time u take to miss!.....and bring your daughter too…she playing touch..is close by..u bring her now…and i did..and they wanted foto’s with my daughter too..what a pleasant afternoon this was…Broome, Western Australia
Peter was also in the group..he was really friendly and we had a good chat, he wanted to know where my country was and how long i was in Broome and he really wanted me to take photo’s from the baby and Jasmein and also himself..they loved to look on my screen how the photos looked and always ask me ‘miss you coming back”. Fitzroy, the other home series. I have been documenting Fitzroy for three years now. And every time I go there, there is always something valuable and interesting to visually behold. From vintage to contemporary; bouncers to buskers; bohemian to mainstream; the place is buzzing with a life and passion so intense it personally continues to inspire me. There’s no other place like it. These images are all in black and white to intact some mystery in a very technicolour world. Here’s my take on the art rich town of Fitzroy. This image has two sides to it. The bike reflective of a journey. A journey in which one step can take you into a new dimension, a new space, a new level. The road sign splits the art, or artist to bring individuals into a collective. The road sign itself has a tag YO! which can easily be overlooked. Some art can either scream at you, or hide itself from you. Either way, we are given a glimpse into the creative minds of the people that have shared it. The journey has only just begun.

Lovely window of an old cafe in East Brunswick Rd, Melbourne. Noticed the reflection in the window of posters of faces from the wall across the road which I really liked. This building already had lovely textured walls with peeling paint, but is has been enhanced with a few texture layers. / Camera – Nikon D90
A close-up of weathered paper glued onto a red fire hydrant in Fitzroy near Melbourne… it’s OK… it’s OK….
