  • An old church in Leicester st, Fitzroy that caught my eye.

  • Taken in a back alley of Fitzroy – looking towards the back of the shops that face Brunswick street. This rusty old shed on the right recently sold for approx $600k

  • I was resting in the Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne when I noticed this scene. Just above was a group of Rainbow Lorikeets yelling at me (also photographed!) but this simple composition stood out to me. There was something old world about the texture and shape of this old tree and I wanted to reveal the detail of it without being so close that it lost its identity and form. Lucky for me the light was perfect for the capturing of such detail… CLICK TO VIEW MY LANDSCAPE SERIES Click to see more of my photographic artwork / Click to visit me! /

  • This alleyway is located directly opposite where I have been picking up either one or both of my children from school for the past 8 years…. It has the feel of a very familiar and friendly place. The ‘locals’ who ask for a dollar or two for their next hit reasonably regularly quite understand if some of the time I can’t help them out…. / Every now and then I’d mention to my son that it would be really good to get a photo of this alley, and he’d keep on telling me – ‘But Muum – you should have your camera with you ALL THE TIME’. He’s right. Sony Alpha 350, Tokina 19-35mm Lens, Focal Length 24mm @ f4.0, 1/50 Sec Exp, ISO 400. Taken in July (mid-winter) just as the evening light was fading at a great rate, and it was just beginning to rain a little… O – and I just have to add again, that this image looks LOTS better LARGE… :)))

  • Visit My Online Store Acrylic on acrylic paper. 11.5” x 8.5” Reference photo used from my own private collection. I’m broadening my skills by learning to paint with a more impressionistic style. I’m struggling with it at the moment and feel like an obsessive compulsive lol but I WILL integrate this style into more of my work. I am currently studying the works of Van Gogh (my first great impressionist love!) and Paul Cezanne. Both have styles that speak to my heart so deeply and profoundly, their work is so fluid and SPIRTUAL!!! Sigh…..swoon….lol. Also, I have to share with you the words of my inspirational Priest Fr Richard when I shared with him my first attempts at impressionistic landscapes, to which I stated that it was a break from my more serious religious art: Fr Richard: “Thanks for sharing your latest paintings – landscapes in an impressionist style is probably my favourite genre. I have a special thing for Cezanne! Your paintings are a great first attempt – I am sure even Monet would have been happy with them in his early days?! And any art that expresses something of God’s beauty and wonder is surely serious art? Don’t stray into a false dichotomy of spiritual and secular – all of life is meant to be spiritual!” He is such an inspiration! Not only is he my gift as my spiritual director but we have a great love in music and art with the same tastes! I have been so blessed! And he was RIGHT! I was SEPARATING my religious work from all of God’s beauty in creation. THAT was my MISTAKE and was the reason I was blocked in my ability to paint landscapes. I’ve been set free! hehehehe My Art Mentor was trying to tell me the same thing but now I get it! / /
