  • My friend Bob de la Mora invited me to join him for a sunrise shoot with the model, Mandy. We shot at Illinois Beach State Park which is about an hour fifteen minutes outside of Chicago. Being 70 years old (at the time…me, not the model) and arthritic, I had a tough time getting down (on the sand) to take this shot. (I had a tougher time trying to get up again!) Mandy is into fitness competition. She won a contest the previous evening. But, running barefoot across sand with rocks and plants was a bit of a challenge. Nonetheless, she repeated this routine for quite a number of shots. The final result is somewhat of an accident (one never knows quite what image one has captured). But, I enjoy shooting fitness…running, exercise, etc., particularly, out of doors. And, with all best intentions, I hope to begin a modest program of working out myself. But, the women will still be able to outrun me!

  • Taiji (太极拳) (Also Known as Tai Chi) on the Bund in Shanghai’s Waitan area, with the sunrise over Pudong’s Lujiazui area. tai chi theory and practice evolved in agreement with many of the principles of Chinese philosophy including both Taoism and Confucianism. Tai chi training first and foremost involves learning solo routines, known as forms (套路 taolu). While the image of tai chi chuan in popular culture is typified by exceedingly slow movement, many tai chi styles (including the three most popular, Yang, Wu and Chen) have secondary forms of a faster pace. Some traditional schools of taiji teach partner exercises known as pushing hands, and martial applications of the postures of the form. Winner – EXPO 2010 Corporate Pavilion – Outside Eyes

  • from the Shetland series - Glorious headland captured between two brief hail storms from its smaller sibling, Sumburgh Head. Sandstone elevated to nearly 300m above sea level… Glorious jewel crafted by time, ice, elements. The traveller coming to this part of the world by air never fails to notice the majesty of ruggedness, the narrowness of this island :))
