Along the Algarve coast of Portugal, there are some picturesque little villages, clinging to the hillsides of this rocky coastline. Artist Al Benge has the following comments about his artwork. / “My sketchbook was rapidly filling up as I travelled through Portugal on a recent holiday. The little port village of Ferragudo is particularly suitable for sketching, and I chose a pen and ink technique, with colour washes and splatter for texture. At the cafes on the foreshore, tasty sardines were being served, freshly caught from the boats which base their industry here.
The colourful fishing boats along the Algarve coast of Portugal make a memorable sight. Artist Al Benge has the following comments about his original sketch…..I used a combination of pen and ink, plus colour wash and splatter to portray the very busy scene at this small port along the Praia da Rocha. There was lots of material for my sketchbook, and the fishermen mending their nets gave human interest to my drawing.
...another study of nature and hierarchy.

I AM NOT AN ARTIST I AM JUST A MAN WHO PAINTS.L.S.LOWRY).... I have been painting as an amateur artist on and off for many years.I have over the years developed a very unusual use of colour and content, which I now know from experience appeal to many people, Including individual collectors and dealers. Newcastle upon Tyne England has been a hotbed of heavy Industry since the beginning of the industrial revolution, most of which has now gone forever. A lot of my paintings are recollections of youthful images of the period, late 1940s and 1950s. They are inspired by local naïve and primitive pitmen artists I am also an admirer of L.S.LOWRY, and the great American artist EDWARD HOPPER .AND GRANMA MOSES among others. This design replaces ‘Fish Stocks’ due to the interest ‘Ghosts’ has recieved. I didn’t expect ‘Ghosts’ would generate a lot of interest to be honest, but then what do I know about art. / So now there’s two options available, you can have ‘Ghosts’ as wall art or you you can have the T-shirt or maybe even both. / Next time you go out for a meal or to the supermarket & fish is on the menu; remember to order only sustainable fish. / Ps, not all the colour options work but its your choice. / 11/06/09
