The first planet Zorind showed me was Garleana V on the outer boundry of the “Star Nebula”,its a mere 200.000 light yrs from Earth. / Not much beach walking here,temps very cool,the big draw is the fishing. / Went out for a day,caught a ton of Silver Darters,smallest about 50 lbs,biggest about 2300 lbs. / Great eating,and washed down with tankards of Yellow Glowworm Slime Jelly, / a being could not ask for a better feast. / Course Zorind found females,they were Zonk twins,not my cup of Jelly,but hey,each alien to his own tastes. / I spent my time fishing ad exploring this beautiful world.

The coral trout is a prized eating delicacy in seafood restaurants all over the world. This one is in its natural environment on a coral reef. I love the electric blue spots and red camouflage patterns on these guys. Tuely on of the most spectacular species to be seen on the coral reef.

It was just bad luck that sunburned Sammy decided to try out his new trident, on the same day that the Pop-eyed Parachute fish was out out hunting. Sammy was slightly out of his depth, in this aquatic jungle, and was about to get a sharp lesson in the reality of the food chain…just kidding, I like happy endings :) The Parachute fish was a purple coral eater and it was this, his roving eye had spotted. So, Sammy got his breakfast after all and the cute lil purple “Thinfin” was the only one to lose in this watery scene. :)

Featured Rural Around the Globe. Well not really playing. Actually, after killing the little fish by bashing its head against the steel piling, this female belted kingfisher is tossing the little fish (probably salmon) to position it for swallowing. This is all very nimble and skilful. During a 3 hour period that I watched her, some of it from a great distance, she repeated this scene several times, indicating that she is well fed. This photo was shot at the Campbell River estuary on the east coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, using a Nikon D700, Nikkor 600 mm f4 lens, and Nikon 1.4 teleconverter (ISO 800, -0.67 EV, f5.6, 1/1250s).
