This was captured after a rain storm, while we were on holidays at Lorne. The sky lit up as though it was on fire, with the clouds reflecting the late afternoon sun and the resulting water lying on the pier also mirrored the sky and the couta boat, docked there.

This is a mixture of watercolour and pastel and is of the Wansbeck, a local river where we spent most of our childhood – a time of wartime restrictions and no home entertainment beyond board games. In those days we fished for food rather than sport. Regardless, it was great fun.

And then with a thud to the back of my head came blackness. / Waking to find myself face down on the floor, I could hear the grating wheeze of the dogs laughter and the tinkling of broken glass falling from my back as I rose to my knees. I rubbed a tender spot at the base of my skull, and then my eyes. / Through a haze of dust and feathers the scene before me gradually came into focus. The frenzied attack on my host continued, and it was clear that despite his bravery, his efforts to fend of the relentless beasts had become futile. / However, at the very same moment his eyes had suggested a man resigned to his fate, with a swipe of his glove he was able to buy himself enough time to reach into his overcoat and pull out a large shiny object which he tossed into the air. / The object – a medal of the grandest order- fell at the feet of the sniggering hound. The dog looked down at the prize and breathed out a deep sigh of smug satisfaction. “Well…” gurgled his battle worn master, by now at the limits of his patience: / “DON’T JUST STAND THERE LIKE AN OVER GROWN FRICKIN GOOFBALL…D-O-O-O SOMETHING!!!!!”

Painted for the Gallery 696 birthday show opening April 1st – the brief was ‘greyscale with a hint of colour’. The side wall of the gallery is about to get a new graf makeover in greyscale. Taken in Tobermory Bay, fishing boats have returned after a days fishing, i love the clouds and reflections in ths shot. 1 shot handheld, converted to 3 shots in CS2 then merged to HDR in photomatix. Levels, curves and saturation in CS2 Canon 400D / 18-55 lens / Hoya uv filter.

Water color Painting on 140lb Montval paper. / Most of the background of water here was accomplished with wet on wet, adding and moving the colors. The beak was started with a solid orange that settled adding touches of green and I used a wet brush to bring the light spots back out after it was completely dry. Most of the darker areas on the beak were dry brush and then lightly bled. The photo for this painting was taken at Jack London Square in Oakland, CA. As this egret settled in to finding a good spot to fish, he gathered a crowd. We all watched for almost 20 minutes as he caught a days worth of fish. Just enough for lunch, I’m sure he planned to return later that day for the evening show. I’m glad we got front row seating so I could get a few great shots. /
