  • A trout fisherman perseveres with the weather on the River Orchy, Glen Orchy, Scotland Nominated for the “Pay It Forward” group by: Ginger Barritt Ginger said, of this work: / “It is a moody, powerful, beautiful piece. To me it holds so many contrasts…powerful, wild beauty of the stream against the serenty of being solitary and doing a simple thing such as fishing ….the hugeness of the area and the smallness of the fisherman….not to mention the contrasts of rocks, water, green, and broody sky…It all comes together to make it one of my favorite pieces to stare at over and over again…It gives me a feeling of belonging, and of being overwhelmed at how small each of us are” Canon 40D, 18-55 IS

  • A random drawing that a friend of mine wanted me to come up with… of course, with an example, but changed quite a bit, giving it my own style and color – edited with photoshop too as well. This would make a great T-shirt!

  • All alone in the low sky….

  • In mystical symbolism, the heron, stork and crane represent much the same things – they are all solar and water birds that are said to be able to predict the weather. They represent vigilance and are valuable as destroyers of reptiles. / In Greece, the heron was sacred to Athene and Aphrodite, carrying their messages to humans. In both China and Japan, the white heron is teamed with the black crow to symbolize solar-lunar powers. Ancient Egyptians associated the heron with the rising Sun and the return of the resurrected god Osiris. It signified regeneration of life. In the Celtic cultures the heron symbolized both the Sun and the underworld and was connected to solar healing deities, but was also a messenger of death for Pwyll, king of the underworld. / Magical attributes of heron are the ability to watch patiently for results. The dignity of movement and methodical procedure in matters. Gaining dignity and self-confidence for facing personal problems. / “From the stately heron I learn dignity, / Patience to wait for proper timing. / By example, I see the sense of methodic planning. / One step at a time, personal problems are solved.” DJ Conway / The great blue heron is considered the king of the marsh and reflects an innate wisdom of being able to maneuver through life and control life circumstances. This shot was taken after he scared away the Bald Eagle, apparently moving in on his fishing territory along the banks of our Naches river. Great Blue Heron thinking of you Pamela ;)

  • Lover’s Key is a small group of mangrove islands located in Lee County between Ft. Myers Beach, Fl, and Bonita Beach. It’s right on the Gulf of Mexico. The islands are collectively known as Lover’s Key State Park (formerly Carl E. Johnson Park). Inland backwaters full of fish, birds, and marine life, separate the islands from each other. Boats with motors are not allowed within the Park, but motorboats are allowed in the Gulf and Bay waters surrounding the Park, and there is a boat ramp within the park. This is to protect the abundant wildlife, which includes manatees, dolphins, various herons and roseate spoonbills, ospreys, bald eagles, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, snook, mullet, rays, and a large variety of shellfish.

  • Winsor Newton artist paints on 140lb Montval Marine cold pressed watercolour paper, original 21”x9”. I enjoy all types of fishing, but there’s a true art in fly fishing. So it’s probably my favorite.

  • The Bald River and parts of its watershed are now part of the Bald River Gorge Wilderness, designated as a wilderness area by the U.S. Forest Service in 1984. It is a tributary of the Tellico River located in the Cherokee National Forest south of the Great Smoky Mountain N.P. Bald River Falls is regarded as the most impressive and scenic waterfalls in East Tennessee. According to the water level and, angle that it was shot from, the falls can appear tall or short and wide. It is about 90 ft. high, and caution should be used when exploreing it as several have been injured or died here. Bald River is a wild stream but the Tellico River is stocked with trout April thru September and is renowned for its trout fishing. It is located a short drive off the Cherohala Skyway in Monroe County Tn. To find it drive about 5 an 1/4 miles east of Tellico Plains on SR 165 and turn right onto Tellico River Road just past Oosterneck pullout and drive about another 6 miles. Latitude: 35-19’27’’ N Longitude: 084-10’38’’ W. It is well worth the drive except during a dry spell. Canon Rebel XTi

  • Featured Rural Around the Globe. Well not really playing. Actually, after killing the little fish by bashing its head against the steel piling, this female belted kingfisher is tossing the little fish (probably salmon) to position it for swallowing. This is all very nimble and skilful. During a 3 hour period that I watched her, some of it from a great distance, she repeated this scene several times, indicating that she is well fed. This photo was shot at the Campbell River estuary on the east coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, using a Nikon D700, Nikkor 600 mm f4 lens, and Nikon 1.4 teleconverter (ISO 800, -0.67 EV, f5.6, 1/1250s). For information about this amazing bird, and even to hear its sounds, click here.

  • Location: River walk, Phenix City, Alabama / Technique: Aperture Priority ,f/4.5, iso 200, exposure time 1/1600 sec. / Equipment: (Nikon DX) / Workflow: Raws file, photoshop edit ( Fisherman)

  • In the New Mexico lowlands there are great stretches of arid landscape that can support only cacti and the hardiest succulents and grasses. But add an above-ground water source and you’ll find a riotous entanglement of Screwbean Mesquite, New Mexico Olive, Desert Hackberry, Mexican Elder, and myriad other understory trees and shrubs. Towering over all will likely be a double-lined canopy of majestic cottonwoods. Besides being the keystone plant for an amazingly diverse habitat, these iconic trees also put on a vivid coat of yellow and gold in the fall, providing a unique and beautiful backdrop that contrasts magnificently with the subtle desert palette that is more commonly seen here. Pentax K20D, 3-shot HDR, variable shutter speeds @ F8, ISO 100, 110mm.

  • This rainbow trout has been hanging out with too many salmon. See more of my Adirondack landscape and wildlife photos at http://bestrainbowtroutphotos.com. My favorite photographs of rainbow trout are quite unique and have received much recognition. Thank you for looking. Have a great day!!!
