As a child, my treasured stuffed animal (as all children tend to have) was a little squirrel who went on every kind of adventure with me, and my favorite story was about a lil’ squirrel named “Miss Suzy” – written by Miriam Young, and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. I love the thought of the tiny leaf-boat capturing the attention of the denizens of the pond as it passes by en route to a wonderous place. January 10th, 2009 – WOW!! Thank you so much for the front page feature!!! I’m so delighted! If you like Columbus – you might enjoy some of my other little animal works!! / / /
A small English village, Hanley Swan in Worcestershire. It boasts a duckpond with a nesting platform. I was camping near there last summer and took a walk to this village. To my pleasant surprise I found this Heron, he was looking rather pleased with himself and in no mood to take flight …......... Copyright 2008 Richie Dean PhotoArtMaster and Adobe Photoshop
The other day I did a shoot with Tiffany and she shouted “We have to do a shoot in the pond!” I thought she meant on/around the pond, but she definitely meant IN the pond. I thought that would be awesome but it was so cold that I didn’t really give it a second thought. We got lucky with the weather because it was in the 70s, but the water was still pretty cold and Tiffany had to take a hot shower and I fed her hot chocolate and then hot tea as she snuggled in a blanket while we looked through the photos. Despite freezing her it was really fun.
These are some other shots from my photoshoot in my Koi pond with Tiffany. This particular fish was one of the less impressive fish, but it ended up being the cutest and most friendly. These two photographs were taken in sequence as the fish approached tiffany and then swam away.

Also, it was good to experiment using the acrylic in a different way – and I love the spiritual symbolism of the lotus flower.

Japanese Koi fish pair in the pond treated with fractalius filter
“Floating on Clouds” was shot in Goulds Newfoundland Canada. This is The Dory in natural light. I was talking to a friend about shooting “The Dory” and “Floating on Clouds” and how I used a polarizer to bring out the clouds on the water (as seen here) and removed it and used a flash to shoot “The Dory”. I was wondering in hindsight what I would have come up with if I had used the polarizer and flash at the same time. I know I would have given up about up to two stops with the filter which would have meant a slower shutter speed and the boat was moving, ever so slightly, so it may not have worked out? But maybe next time, live and learn!
