Well I finally bit the bullet and bought a boat. The most expensive bit o kit and it doesn’t fit in the camera bag, lol!! / It’s a Savage …
Well I finally bit the bullet and bought a boat. The most expensive bit o kit and it doesn’t fit in the camera bag, lol!! / It’s a Savage Avalon, centre console, 4.8m long, 2.41m wide, and has a Johnson 70hp outboard. I bought it because you have clear all around views from the deck, and it’s a walk around deck. It will allow me to get some better angles, not only at sea, but in lakes and rivers as well. The maiden voyage will be on thursday, depending on the weather, and we are looking at going from St Kilda, at this stage. / My niece Zoe, has put the kybosh on the boat, and told me rather sternly, I’m not going in the boat… I think she’ll change her tune sooner or later, lol!! / I’ve uploaded a photo of the boat, because I don’t know how to add it to this blog. By the way, the boat, she’s called Observant.

I am proud to unveil my new painting titled Coy Kiss / I have been working on this over the last several months and have finally finished it as of last night. There are many layers and texture. This painting literally changes and comes alive in different lighting. I used acrylic and some other mediums to slow the drying process. After it was done I finished the water in my painting with gloss varnish in certain areas to achieve water highlights…so it actually appears like the water is real…and that perhaps that there is even movement in it. This is a special piece to me, there is a lot of symbolism and beauty in Koi fish to me. Also I am drawn to fish in general and life in water. / The bright contrasting colors and dead space of this work is what attracted me to it in the first place. I want to say a special “Thank You” to Rebecca Cruz who let me paint her photo titled Koi As I was creating the name for it, the play on words for “Coy” just kept coming to my heart. Thus “Coy Kiss”! / There is a written work from Venus and Adonis by William Shakespeare, that I chose to describe my work. I feel it perfectly captures my heart for this piece and the moment… ...”Never did passenger in summer’s heat / More thirst for drink than she for this good turn. / Her help she sees, but help she cannot get; / She bathes in water, yet her fire must burn: / ‘O! pity,’ ‘gan she cry, ‘flint-hearted boy: / ‘Tis but a kiss I beg; why art thou coy?”... He died shortly after this photo was taken while lobster fishing on this boat. / / He would visit and stay with us for a few days after a fishing trip. We never knew when he would arrive, we would see him walking up the long driveway to our house with a giant lobster under each arm. Or a big cloth flower sack filled with scallops. / / Sam’s visits were always looked forward to by us all. / / / / / / /
