The Arno is a river in region of Tuscany, Italy, that crosses all the region from Mount Falterona (near the city of Arezzo, in Casentino area), to Pisa where it enters Tyrrhenian Sea. It is the biggest river in the region. It crosses Florence too, where it passes below the Ponte Vecchio. The river flooded the city regularly in historical times, the last occasion being the famous flood of 1966. While classified as a river, the Arno is sometimes described as having a torrent-like behaviour, because it can easily go from almost dry to near-flood in a few days. New dams built upstream of Florence have greatly alleviated the problem in the last years. /

*location: Firenze (Florence), Italy is it any wonder that Michelangelo loved his hometown so much? I know I’ve been a tad M.I.A lately, guys… new job keeping me busy, still trying to earn enough money to travel again, and hopefully buy a Mac/ better camera… but still getting enough time to tweak more photos in the lab – this was another one of them :) Anybody know a good place/ way/ method of finding a new muse?

In my opinion, Piazza della Signora is the most intriguing piazza in the whole of Florence, and that is a brave statement for the City of Art. I particularly love this view of Neptune Fountain alongside the Palazzo Vecchio and the abundance of statues that keep you intrigued for hours, like a copy of Michelangelo’s David and Donatello’s Lions. The low rise of the city allows the sun to shine upon you and the narrow, cobbled sidewalks add additional charm to Florence. However, Piazza della Signora with its wide array of statues and museums and burst of sunlight, is rough underfoot but tops the list for me.
This collage of graffiti shows the vast wealth of urban art that Florence, the city of the Renaissance, has to offer.
