This was taken on my camera at the Tasmanian Fire Service fire grounds near Launceston Airport in Tasmania, where the Merchant Navy does it’s fire training, and important function in ship’s crews. We are all trained firemen. / Just after this photo was taken, the girl holding the spray hose containing the flames, got tired and let the hose drop before I could turn off the gas valve, resulting in my losing my eye brows, lashes and some of my beard. Much laughter was had by all.

Was on my way to pick up my son from Kindergarten and was looking at the abandoned building that is immediately across the road from the Kinder. From the roof there was pitch black billows of thick smoke escaping. I (along with others) called the emergency fire station and could hear the engines coming within minutes. Went into the kinder to get Kane and it was so ironic because the teacher had just finished handing out Fire Safety leaflets to all the children from a recent visit from the local firemen. We walked out and the whole scene became quite a spectacle. Traffic stopped… locals everywhere… firetrucks, police, young kids standing around out the front. Of course the photographer in me immediately wanted my camera in hand… so I raced home with my boy and we walked back up to the scene. These are the photo’s I got (this is the first in a series of 3).
