Redbubble on steroids for Firefox users
by Roger BarnesThere’s nifty Firefox extension called Greasemonkey that lets you customize the way …
There’s nifty Firefox extension called Greasemonkey that lets you customize the way a web page displays using small bits of JavaScript. Hundreds of scripts, for a wide variety of popular sites, are already available at http://userscripts.org , and now there’s one for redbubble. Based on a script for displaying large versions of thumbnails on facebook, I’ve created one that shows large image previews of art and clothing when hovering over most thumbnails and many links on redbubble.com. To give it a whirl, install Firefox (as if you haven’t already), install Greasemonkey (requires browser restart), then install my script (just click on it and Greasemonkey should pick it up) Then when you load a page, hover over a thumbnail or art/clothing link and gasp in amazement at the amount of time you’ve saved not clicking through (which you can still do of course). I got addicted to it very quickly, so much so that I immediately missed it when using another computer. This is a first release and may have a quirk or 3. Comments/feedback welcome here. Update 04JAN08: Fixed the bugs that Xavier reported, writing now works, and the hover disappears when it should. To update, install it again at the link above.

Hack: "Friends of RedBubble" quick link for mybubble
by Dave PearsonInspired by this thread...
Inspired by this thread I’ve knocked up a quick Greasemonkey hack that adds a Friends of RedBubble forum link the the quick links bar in mybubble. This, of course, is only useful to people who use Firefox, have Greasemonkey installed, and who are a member of the FoRB group. If that’s you and this sounds useful then pop over here to get a copy.

Inspired by this thread (although it is a subject that has come up many times before) on the RedBubble forums I’ve created a Greasemonkey script to implement a very simple BubbleMail preview facility. It works by adding a preview button to your screen when you compose a new BubbleMail: When you press the button a preview of your BubbleMail will appear below the button: It’s not perfect. It has some issues. But it’s a start. See over here for more details about the script and to get a copy.

Browsers, Blogs and Bigmouths

Browsers....I have been using Firefox as a browser for as long as I can remember. It’s a great browser…I can’t say it has ever been bug free, but it’s been safe and relatively fast and apparently much better than IE7 (Because apparently IE7 is a secret spy browser for the United States Government) :| / This week I downloaded the new Firefox 3 and have had all sorts of problems with it. Sites I frequent, such as redbubble continually crash and burn, pages don’t load, it is slow etc etc…a bummer really and a problem I do hope will be rectified oneday:) / So, in the meantime….I did some research on other Browsers…because again I was warned off IE7 and decided to try Macs Safari for Windows Oh so so pretty! Brushed metal toolbars and tabs…very impressive to look at. But it’s just not doing much for me in the speed stakes…and I need speed :| So…you guessed it. I am..right now..using the so-called nasty spy browser…Internet Explorer 7. And I have to say…I think it is brilliant. A fast, quick loading, straight shooting, son of a gun browser….I wonder if I will ever return to my beloved Firefox and I wonder if my Internet fetishes are being spyed upon? :D Hahaha! Has anyone experienced problems with Firefox 3? And what is your Browser of choice? Blogs…. I just wanted to link interested hotties to my Blog Wild Things It’s really just another personal offshoot of my redbubble and deviantArt accounts. It’s new so there isn’t much there at the moment. There will also be stuff posted that has never been posted online…if anyone has a blog and wishes to link or feed…feel free :D Bigmouths…. This place…this little redbubble…has gotten rather big and will continue to do so…Yes? Therefore we have groups of different people and personalities…running amok. Therefore we begin to notice the bigmouths and know-it-alls and the all round whingers. Therefore if anyone reading this journal…my journal…thinks they may be any of the above…please Fuck Off. We are here to promote our Art not to carry on like nasty spoilt children. A big thanks to my friends and people I barely know for your warmth and support over the past week (you know who you are)...it was so welcome and so needed. Thanks…I adore you xoxo

First Stab at a Greasemonkey Script
by Shaun JohnstonFollowing in the footsteps of Dave Pearson ( RB Profile Here...
Following in the footsteps of Dave Pearson ( RB Profile Here ), I have produced my own Greasemonkey hack attempt. This script implements a visual Textile helper called markItUp on the RedBubble site, and places the helper above all textareas. Installation If you are interested in trying the script, you need to be running Firefox for starters, and you need to install the Greasemonkey addon . Once you have done this, you can fetch the Greasemonkey script from here . If you do try it, please be sure to notify me of any bugs you find. History 0.2 Now uses unpacked jQuery code for compatibility with FF2 / 0.1 First Release

Time for another Greasemonkey hack. This one replaces the existing text formatting hint you get when making comments (the text that pops out when you click on the “Show text formatting help:” link below the comment box). Instead of the rather small bit of help you get webgrrl’s rather handy text formatting cheat sheet. See over here for more details.

I love the internet. There are so many portals you can jump through at any given time. But one thing I hate is when you see this page! ARGH! This design may look like a Firefox vs Internet Explorer fight, but that was purely accidental I assure you.

Set a Guinness World Record - Get Firefox

/ Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours – it’s that easy. We’re not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome. The official date for the launch of Firefox 3 is June 17, 2008. Okay, so RB has been wigging out on me lately! What’s the deal-y-y-o? I AM GOING CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!! RB spare me this insanity…. pweese? :o( I have written two posts about this, here and here. And, now this journal to share with you the utter chaos I have been dealing with for the last 2 1/2 days!!! It totally ruined Drawing Day for me!!!! Oh pooh! This problem is not with FireFox or IE, because I tried both and the problem persisted with both. I have been dealing with pages like these the entire time as well as other minor things as stated in the forum posts. Oh, somebody help. OR, I’m gonna go postal! Flames…flames at the…side…of my face…heaving breaths…! Here are some screen shots I took today. The first is FF and the second is IE: /

Correct Spelling on Mozilla Firefox

Are you a Mozilla Firefox browser user? Sick of working out if you are spelling a word correctly (either with an external program, or having to open a paper-dictionary, or worse yet, opening Microsoft Word)? / The people at Mozilla have had an answer available. It’s one easy step to add the dictionary and spell-checker to Mozilla Firefox for your language of choice. Now you can type your Journal and Writing knowing you’ve spelt that werd rite, corectly and without riping your hair oubt. Nough, whenever a word is spelld rong, a red line apears under it. Right click over that word to get a choice of alturnative words to replace it. If you haven’t checked for updates/upgrades in a while, it’s definitely time … because the spell-checker is finally a standard in the program download! Schweet! 1. Menu Bar at top of browser screen. / (Menu,Edit,View,History,Bookmarks,Tools,Help) / 2. Click on ‘Help’. Go down DropMenu till you find ‘Check for Updates’. / 3. Just sit and wait – the browser does the rest for you. / 4. Follow the prompts carefully – your browser may need to close down to apply updates.

Hack: Move user actions further up a user's profile page
by Dave PearsonThis thread over in the forums raises an interesti…
This thread over in the forums raises an interesting point: wouldn’t it be nice if the user actions for a user’s profile (the actions for adding them to your watchlist or to send them a BubbleMail) were in pretty much the same place all the time. Currently, because they come below the user-supplied part of the profile, and because some user-supplied text can be very long, you’ve got to go hunting down the page to find them. If they always came before the user-supplied text you’d always know where to look. Inspired by this issue I’ve written a Greasemonkey script to solve the problem. So, if you use Firefox, and if you’ve got Greasemonkey installed, have a look over here.

Edit a work from the public view: Redux

After messing with yesterday’s edit facility hack I got to thinking that it would be fun to create a Greasemonkey script anyway. So I did This is different from the bookmarklet approach in that it adds the edit facility into the page of the work, like this:

Yet another Greasemonkey hack for RedBubble. This one adds a Add to Google button to all forum threads. This makes it easier to keep on top of threads you’re active in (if you’re a Google Reader user, obviously). If this sounds handy, and you use Firefox, and you’ve got Greasemonkey installed, pop over here and give the script a go.

Another Greasemonkey hack for RedBubble. This one adds a “public view” tab to the row of tabs you see when you’re using mybubble. While there are other ways of getting to your public view (either via the “Things you can do” menu in your main mybubble view, or from the link right at the bottom of the page) this one works well for me because it puts it in a really obvious place: If this sounds handy, and you use Firefox, and you’ve got Greasemonkey installed, pop over here and give the script a go. Edit to add: This isn’t really needed so much now because your user name, up in the top right corner of every page when you’re logged in, is now a link to your public profile.

"Edit this work" hack updated
by Dave PearsonI’ve uploaded version 0.7 of my work editing hack...
I’ve uploaded version 0.7 of my work editing hack. This version fixes a long-standing problem that has existed for some users ever since I released v0.3. The problem was that, for some users, the edit link would no longer appear. Thanks go to Gracey and Cathie Tranent for taking the time to report the problem and also for helping try and track it down. Extra thanks also go to Cathie for actually figuring out what the problem was (failing to do the “is this my work” check with a case-insensitive comparison, d’oh!).

Hack: Move comment box to bottom of comments
by Dave PearsonNow that I’ve finally got around to messing with Greasemonkey...
Now that I’ve finally got around to messing with Greasemonkey I thought it might be fun to try and “fix” another RedBubble annoyance: the fact that, some time ago, the comment entry box for most works was moved to the top of the comments (personally I prefer it to be at the bottom for a couple of reasons). So, a quick bit of hacking later, and I’ve got it working. If you use Firefox, and have Greasemonkey installed, and prefer the comment entry box to be at the bottom of all the comments, give it a try. Edit: It seems that a change to RedBubble today (2007-12-13) has placed the comment box back at the bottom of the list of comments and, as such, this hack is no longer needed.

Version 0.2 of my RedBubble forums/Google reader hack is now available. This version fixes a problem where it wouldn’t work correctly if you were trying to use it after jumping to a specific post in a thread or if you were on a page other than the first page. See over here for more details.

Hack: "Add to Google Reader" button for all works
by Dave PearsonFollowing on from my forum thread Google reader hack...
Following on from my forum thread Google reader hack, the next obvious one to do was to add the Google reader button to all works so it’s dead easy (for a lazy person like me) to follow a thread of comments on someone’s work. Just like before this one adds a Add to Google button but, this time, it adds it to the action list for a work. This makes it easier to keep on top of comment threads you want to follow (if you’re a Google Reader user, obviously). If this sounds handy, and you use Firefox, and you’ve got Greasemonkey installed, pop over here and give the script a go.
