This photo was taken in Roy Utah. The fireworks are about a 1/2 mile south of my house with the lightning about 25 miles away. I captured this amazing photo with my nikon d70s right after i bought it and was actually just learning how to operate it.

This shot was taken on the shores of Lake Geneva, Switzerland in the town of Montreux. The combination of the setting sun, the lack of wind and the slight overcast conditions created the metallic look of the water – which looked like it had the consistency of mercury. Interestingly, this location is where Deep Purple wrote the song Fire in the Sky.

Oils on canvas 30×30cm / In this one I think I painted quite closely to the manipulation. I did however turn some of the whips of fire in the shadows into locks of curly red hair. Captured freehand in the Blackhouse Museum at Arnol, Isle of Lewis. Smoke from the peat fire in the centre of the main room is caught in the light from the only window. Historic Scotland site The museum is well worth a visit to get insights of what life was like in this typical old stone house. The so-called blackhouses did not have a chimney but the peat smoke rose up through the thatched roof. This had the added advantage of keeping the roof from rotting or rain from coming through. This is my homage to the generations of islanders who lived in these houses. Addtional information from Ranald: “The tar from the peat smoke made everything inside black, hence the name. The beasts were often kept at one end of the house, where the floor sloped down. The heat rising off them kept the smoke away. A very clever system.” Nikon D1X, Nikon 18-70 F3.5-4.5G. Then i talked with Bil and he mentioned me and Shoaib in the same sentence so I knew it was time to give my Brotha his due. / . / I am so pleased you are in my life Shoaib, as you remind me sometimes how GOOD LIFE KEEPS GETTING. you are an expanded part of our evolution. So many younger people I meet here are eons past where I was at their age. I like this fact, I know that life keeps getting better and better and more in tuned. / After many weeks of chasing pelicans out on our local lake and foreshore, I was amazed at how easily they could be shot after all down “at the supermarket”. Yes, this is indeed a zoo shot, and it was pelicans galore the day I visited with some wonderful Bubblers- it was just too easy to walk around and shoot away. I was and remain very pleased with the shots, though I must admit the fire for me with birds is in the flight, and in the chase. What I was amazed to learn when I got the shots up on the small screen at home, was just how sensuous this amazing bird could be.
