The Nothofagus forests of Fiordland on New Zealand’s south island may be not very biologically diverse but they are truly beautiful. Walking through them I had the feeling that if i stood still too long then I too would become moss festooned like most of the rainforest. more of my rainforest photography can be seen at / rainforests

Shot in May 2007 from Highway 94 near Te Anau township (population ca. 1800). /

Upper Hollyford Valley, Fiordland National Park, South Island, New Zealand. This was one of those incredible views that I felt justified in ignoring the Avalanche Danger signs to stop and photograph, I could here the rumbling of avalanches in the hills surrounding me so I didnt stop for long, just long enough to set the camera up and take a couple of quick shots before running back to the car and getting out of there. / It was a freezing cold day (temperature was around -5 in the sun) Nikon F90X film camera / Fuji Velvia 50 Slide film / 24-70mm nikkor lens / tripod
