I got sick of beakfaces and lizards momentarily and decided to paint some fishies – literally, goldfish…I’ve applied patches of gold leaf to their little heads. Despite being distracted by Eurovision I managed to finish it this weekend!! This one will probably be at Brunswick St Gallery in their small works show, June 6th. About 20×20cm, watercolour, chalk pastel etc on canvas. These enlargements are bigger than life size:

In the bestiary there’s also a garden. It’s walled off though, so the beasts can’t trample it! I loved painting the undulating fin shapes of this piece, so I had to do another. 15×30cm, watercolour, chalk pastel, ink, conte, iridescent pigments and copper leaf on canvas. A series of creepy creatures….......... Too colorful for most and the face forward portraits are the least appealing…..not many people want to hang these because it always feels as if you are being watched ;) I have sold some of these But I’m not hanging any of them myself, in fact my home decorating style is in complete contrast to what I do. It would be a lot cheaper if I would just produce the type of art I typically buy but I seldom feel inspired to do so LOL. Colored pencil on thick smooth art paper 11×14 / & black sharpie. I might have to retake this…........I’m not sure I like the lighting

Full view definitely needed :) This one is a bit special for me. The image is inspired by my favourite RB poet girlinthestars and my favourite poem, in her amazing collection, titled Mermaid. Significant for me, but you will have to read the whole poem to find some meaning for yourself :) Inspired, my friend Simon Muirhead was kind enough, to let me have complete artistic freedom to use one of his latest photos Flat Rock. This photo is perfect as the background of the image and Simon has become a bit of an expert at these fantastic, slow-shutter speed photos. Check out his gallery! What you see here is one of several works of art to be posted over the next seven days – the results of a seven day smackdown between myself, and the fabulous Angi Sullins and Silas Toball – where Angi made a traditional collage, and then gave it to Silas and I, letting us loose on it with our photoshop skills. :) For this one – I was really draw to one element in particular, in the original collage. Some orange detailing that made me think of goldfish, or koi. I couldn’t get the image out of my head… no matter that the whole focus of the original collage was BUNNIES! LOL So, instead of following the white rabbit, and dove into the lily pond with the fishies. Here is the original collage: (TO BE POSTED MOMENTARILY)

For me the most magical place on earth I think is Punakaiki or The Pancake Rocks along West Coast of New Zealand. Here all five of your senses are assaulted byt the elements that make up this wonderful spot. A visual treat is accompanied by feel and taste of salt spray on the air and booming of the waves hitting the limestone cliffs at high tide is like thunder.

SURF RESCUE by karin taylor / ink pastel acrylic and charcoal on canvas textured paper / the original aussie lifesaver chick on patrol at her local beach…swim between the flags folks..and right in front of the surf livesavers zincy noses….. My lifesaver chic sports a white onepiece swimsuit rivalling Miss World Australia’s figure….lashings of zinc cream on her nose for sun protection, and a pair of binoculars, really looking the part here…...and also looking pretty chilled, a common trait of most lifesavers on oz beaches :) There is a rubber duckie in the vicinity too…just in case…. i don’t do many skinny chicks, so she’s a bit of a rarity ‘round these parts! lol
