A shaft of late afternoon sunlight falling onto a delicate object, how could I not reach for my camera? This is a Chinese Lantern skeleton, they grow in my garden and are something I go back to photograph again and again. 19.11.09 1580 views and a favourite for 47 people. Thanks so very much! This painting is a mixed media work that was “rescued”. I had started the original oil painting several years earlier but it had been set aside and forgotten about. Once I pulled it out again, I had no idea what my original vision for the piece was. After looking at it for awhile, I finished it off with the intricate ink work that surrounds the seashell. I also turned the shell into a stone fossil, which represents what happened to the idea I originally had for this painting – it turned to stone! But I think the end result was worth it.

While building our new home here in the desert, we found this site online that restored old fireplaces. This fellow would go through condemed old buildings and abandoned turn of the century houses and find these magnificent fireplaces. He had a selling site on Ebay, so we looked through all of the restored fireplaces and found on that fit our Adobe style home. This fireplace was made in 1898 and is iron and brass. I shot this corner to show texture and the detail of iron works of old. / This picture, if approved will also be submitted into a Metal Texture Challenge.
