This was produced with oils on a stretched canvas. It was inspired by a dream that a former girlfriend had had. I translated the account into a work in reverence of her emotional experiences. Her head is submerged in the river as if she were drowning, and her body stretches through the receding landscape. It can be universally translated as a fertile woman of the earth, and (as I said) it holds very personal and internal connotations of her struggles growing up. I enjoy the sunrise, which allows the viewer to move in through the painting of her and then back, in an infinite dialogue between heaven and earth. It was painted in 2002. The original painting was purchased by a private collector.

acrylic on canvas 150×80cm / / Unofficial Earth Day flag, by John McConnell: the Blue Marble on a blue background. Earth Day is one of two different observances, both held annually during spring in the northern hemisphere, and autumn in the southern hemisphere. These are intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. The United Nations celebrates an Earth Day each year on the March equinox, a tradition which was founded by peace activist John McConnell in 1969. A second Earth Day, which was founded by U.S. politician Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in the late 1960s, is celebrated in many countries each year on April 22.
