Early mourning is so calming and peaceful. The fog that has shrouded the landscape is slowly lifting. Nature seems to be in slow motion and hush. Sit and enjoy what God has gave you. Let nature enfold completely, your whole being, completely covering you with its serenity……..Cades Cove GSMNP

Lost in Utah would have been a more apt title after the GPS affectionately known as “Dorothy” lead me to a graveyard instead of a lake lol. I discovered some gorgeous countryside along route. There is nothing better than getting lost :))

Sutton Bank is a high vantage point at the very edge of the Hambleton Hills and the North York Moors with extensive views over the Vale of York and the Vale of Mowbray. Because of its location and high elevation, Sutton Bank is popular with gliding and flying enthusiasts. Predominant landmarks include Whitestone Cliff and Roulston Scar, the former overlooking the mysterious (and reputedly bottomless !) Lake Gormire. Close nearby are the villages of Sutton-under-Whitestonecliff, and Kilburn (famous for the White Horse of Kilburn, and Robert Thompson – the “Mouseman” of Kilburn). / Sutton Bank is one of the most spectacular inland cliffs anywhere in Britain, and carries one of the most hair-raising main roads in the country. The near vertical drop from top to bottom is around 140 metres, and crosses at least two major geological boundaries. / The Sutton Bank National Park Centre is on the western edge of the fabulous North York Moors National Park – home to the largest expanse of heather moorland in England. It provides the perfect introduction to the National Park, its people, history and wildlife. Nikon D60 / HDR in Photomatix & pp in PS CS3 / Lens: Nikkor 18-200mm / 1/160 f/9.0 ISO200

In honour of the 11th day of the 11th month; the day that recalls the end of World War I, I fold 11 poppies from 15×15mm pieces of paper. The cross is also made from paper. Remembrance Day – also know as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day – is a day to commemorate the sacrifice of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918. Source: Wikipedia The poppy’s significance to Remembrance Day is a result of Canadian military physician John McCrae’s poem “In Flanders Fields”. This poem has also been adapted as a song: In Flanders fields the poppies blow / Between the crosses, row on row / That mark our place; and in the sky / The larks, still bravely singing, fly / Scarce heard ‘mid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago / We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow / Loved and were loved, and now we lie / In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe / To you from failing hands we throw / The torch; be yours to hold it high. / If ye break faith with us who die / We shall not sleep / Though poppies grow / In Flanders fields. For a better idea of scale: / Taken Nov. 4, 2009 with an Olympus FE-340 / / / / Also available at Zazzle
