We’re all familiar with the term and the fabric, 100% cotton, but I wonder how many people have actually seen cotton growing in the field. Here’s a plump cotton boll ripe for harvesting in south/central Louisiana.

Knitting is one of several ways to turn thread or yarn into cloth.Similar to crochet, knitting consists of loops pulled through other loops. There are two varieties of knitting, weft knitting and warp knitting.Warp knitting is generally done by machine, whereas weft knitting may be done by hand.A knitting needle or knitting pin is a long stick or rod used as a tool in the manufacture of hand knitted fabric. Knitting needles have also been called knitting sticks, knitting pins, knitting wires, or simply wires or rods.

Looking to the future, reflecting on the past. Words embroidered on the squares are my “foundations”, words embroidered on the shibori are my future desires, The use of shisha mirrors and holes in this word represent things that I don’t know that I know or don’t know. Silk shirt pieces from my past and thread mats are my hair.

Although the background (or “holder”) of this is canvas, the surface is entirely covered in papers and fabrics. Most of this is craft papers, tissue paper, denim, silk, etc. On top of the collage I painted with acrylic in washes. The branch is sewn on. The 3 leaves are drawings on Reeves BFK (Best all round paper EVER! I use it for everything.) in oil pastel. Their backgrounds are watercolor and acrylic and each is stitched onto the canvas. As for the meaning, the title sums that up. :) Featured in Painters in Modern Times, Forests, and Falling Leaves. :)

Now this water drop has a very strange story behind it…I guess you could say that I really am noticing things that no normal person would notice!! rofl I washed my sink and taps this morning…with a J-Cloth…basically a blue and white fiber cloth that you use a few times and throw away. As I finished rinsing everything down I spotted a tiny water drop suspended from the end of the faucet…dripping off of a few strands of fiber that had caught when I wiped it down…this is the shot that I captured after I made a dash for my camera before that drop dropped:) / Canon 500D Sigma EX DG 70mm Macro and extension tubes..manual focus…natural light from the kitchen window above the sink:)

And I haven’t lost a single pound! Nina is one of only two remaining wild born Western Lowland gorillas at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. She is a grand old lady somewhere between 40 and 50 years old and she is wonderful! She has a fantastic sense of humor. She will sit looking so stoic for a while, then all of a sudden she will stick her tongue out and make faces! I just adore her! / Here she is basking in the glow of her heat lamps and enjoying a snack. She uses the stick you see in her hand as a cane at times when she is walking around. I suspect at her age, she has uncomfortable days just like the rest of us! The Western Lowland Gorilla is a subspecies of the Western Gorilla that lives in montane, primary, and secondary forests and lowland swamps in Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. Adult male Gorillas are prone to cardiomyopathy, a degenerative heart disease. Babec, a Western Lowland Gorilla on exhibit at the Birmingham Zoo in Birmingham, Alabama (USA) was the first gorilla to receive an artificial pacemaker. Binti Jua, who resides at Brookfield Zoo in Illinois, saved a three year old boy who fell into her enclosure in 2003. / The Western Lowland Gorilla is critically endangered.
