Feature Nature’s Reclamation – 1/23/09 While visiting the old Bethel Cemetery, we ran across this tree that grew right into the fence. Pretty amazing we thought. The fence possibly dates back as far as 1852. Photo taken 7/11/08 in Maypearl, TX Contest Winner – Going Green – Vibrant Plants Group Sale of a card to Nichole Schoff
This photo was taken just down the street from my home in Woodland Hills, Utah. / I call it the “Photo Op” fence because I have seen many neighborhood families have their family portrait taken there.
Taken in my South London back garden, this cheeky little madam seemed to have me confused with some sort of squirrel glamour photographer. When she saw my camera, she seemed intent on displaying her ample squirrel bosom. ;-)) Technical Details: Camera: Nikon D3 / Lens: Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 / Focal Length: 400mm / ISO: 450 / Exposure: 1/250 sec at f/11 / Post Processing: Photoshop CS3 © 2008 John Hooton Photography

The variety of manmade marks that are made on the hulls of boats fascinates me. However, their complexity of design is furthered by the action of nature. This is what I want to show in my series of images taken at a local boatyard. The marks look to me like swords fencing or a flight of birds. What is cool is that they don’t have to look like anything. I just enjoy them for what they are: a random (?) design brought about through the actions of people and nature I have been working on making a series of abstract images from boats at a local boatyard (Maylands) where old boats in dry dock are brought back to life.
