I travel on this road 5 days a week as I head to & from work. On this morning the lighting was so good I stopped several times to take snaps. This is one of the snaps taken that morning. Rough legged hawk (Buteo lagopus) A hawk of the North, the Rough-legged Hawk breeds in Arctic tundra and taiga regions around the northern hemisphere. Both dark and light forms are common, with many birds intermediate between the extremes. / The name “Rough-legged” Hawk refers to the feathered legs. The Rough-legged Hawk, the Ferruginous Hawk, and the Golden Eagle are the only American hawks to have legs feathered all the way to the toes. Taken in Las Vegas NWR, New Mexico, November 2005.

Out for hours on a perfect day out with my new dslr it took ages to get far as I kept stopping to try things like this…. bliss! Taken outside Peebles in the lovely scottish borders on a bright frozen frosty day – not a snowflake in sight.. its all frost left over from 24 hours of damp freezing fog… Nikon d60, Nikkor 18-200 lens, UV filter / f/3.5 / 1/500 sec / ISO-100 / focal length 18mm Tips and comments hugely appreciated as ever on this early attempt…untouched . / . / cheers / ding / :)) / http://www.redbubble.com/people/dinghysailor1/art/2153518-3-poor-lambs

The snow last weekend was almost continual but light … creating an amazing, fantasy land of subtle color and soft light. As I shot this particular image, the sun was just appearing across the lake on the trees in the distance. It played hide and seek the whole time I was out. Fortunately, the winds were calm … so the branches were filled with snow.
