maybe one day / I will be able to look below myself at you
To be cherished and know that you are. To be whisked away from the normalcy and boredom of everyday life, or to merely be reminded that…
Yet another piece I wrote when I was 15 – slightly simplistic with just a hint of idealism. One of the gifts of youth is clarity.
11W x 14H, Oval / Acrylic on Canvas During my investigation into the face of beauty, I came ot the conclusion that beauty and power are close relatives. Those who are beautiful seem to have power over others, while those who rule over others are beautiful because of their power. However, in a society where the realm of power belongs to the male, powerful women are often portrayed in a an ugly light. Histories and legends are often twisted so much that the one-time heroine become the nemesis of peace, her beauty a guile used to destroy civilizations. “La Malince” (The Traitor) is the infamous woman who is credited with allowing the comencement of the demise of the Aztec Empire in Mexico by acting as translator for the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes. While widely hated by the descendents of the Aztec peoples, I believe La Malinche to be a beautiful woman, whose actions were never her choice (she was Cortes’ slave), and never intended to entail disaster. This piece is tribute to the peaceful and loving side of the woman who was La Malinche, and to the hopes of all women who wish theirr wrongs to be one day understood and forgiven, that one day history wil not look at us as ugly, despicable creatures.
My friend Trixy. We did a photoshoot in an abandoned house and she wore her outfit for work. This photograph is meant to show feminism. Kind of like… “Lick my boot you dirty man”. / :]
