These are part of a series of digital images that are based on my neon and felt sculptures. This was a detail from a work titled Imagine Walking on Water and was in the Blake Prize Exhibition 2006.
Local shopping Mall, these figures are all the way round the building looking over the town or on the passers-by below.
His penetrating eyes hold the viewer. With his white stetson hat pulled low over his eyes, you might think twice before passing him on the same side of a quiet street. His neatly trimmed dark beard and mustache frame his swarthy sun darkened face. His red neck scarf and blue shirt complete his cowboy look. The background is light with a touch of peach color. The bus had stopped. We were visiting a village near Patzcuaro, Mexico. I was hoping to paint nearby. I saw this man standing at the crude gate to his yard. He was wondering what was going on. I was photographing the area and included him in one shot. Upon examining the images later, I liked this man’s face. As is common, the painting I developed is quite a bit different. His coloring and clothing have been changed. I never knew his real name. This is from my “Sinister Man Series.” The original oil painting on canvas may be available. Deep within Mother Earth in Winter time, three children lay sleeping, slowly the soft rays of the spring sun filtered down and they awoke.Up, up, they climbed into the spring meadow to dance amongst the spring flowers and greet Mother Sun. Spring had come at last.
