Hello to all RB participants in Adelaide and South Australia… I have only been on the RB site for a month or so and have been interested in it ever since… I know there are several other RB participants from Adelaide and elsewhere in SA and suggest we organise a catch up some time to have a chat, compare notes, ideas, experiences etc. How about a photo taking journey around the streets and/or parklands of Adelaide and a gathering at some cafe or pub afterwards??? I am 240 kms away from Adelaide near Yorketown on the Yorke Peninsula, but my wife and I travel to Adelaide every month or so… I look forward to the opportunity to catch up sometime!!!... What do you think??? If any of you wish to contact me outside of the RB option, my email address is dalrymple.downs@bigpond.com and I look forward to hearing your feedback soon.

We’ve been bouncing around an idea to raise the profile of interesting artists and members, help writers get some spending money, and build awareness for RedBubble: How about people write articles about other RedBubble members or collaborations? RedBubble could select the very best, and pay the writer in return for letting the articles be published on the PR newswires So, let’s talk specifics and see if there’s any interest: / 1. Write a newspaper-style human interest article of 500 words or less, about a member, collaboration, or activity on RedBubble. Contact the person(s) directly to get their input and make sure they’re OK with it. / 2. Post your article in your journal. Add tags relating to the content, and also tag it with rbnews / 3. I’ll periodically search for articles tagged with rbnews and select some for broader distribution via PRWeb or similar services / 4. If we decide to use your article, we’ll give you $150 in RedBubble credit by emailing you a checkout code. Not a perfect system, but hopefully a reasonable start. Any interest?

I hit on an idea for my cards that i have purchased from RB to keep them safe and clean until my room is decorated and I can display them on the walls. I thought I would pass it on to fellow bubblers. / I went to Wilkinsons and purchased a photo album for 99p and it holds 32 (5×7) images, various designs available. (Local have everything you can think of store in the UK) It is perfect for holding the cards that I have purchased from RB, it keeps them clean and safe and i am able to impress friends and family with all the wonderful work on RB. / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

Today I went to the shopping centre in town as there is a machine that prints out business cards. While waiting for RB to start producing them I decided to get started with some from the machine. It took me about 10 minutes to design the card. In fact I did 2 different ones, the first one I will be putting in with the cards that I am hoping to sell through a local shop and the second card is one that I can personally give to people after explaining all about RB. I printed 20 cards first to see what they were like, it took 4 minutes to print them out and it cost me £2, oh and they were colour ones. / I was pleased with them so I printed another 50 of the first design, they took 9 minutes to print them out and cost me £4. I them printed 50 of the second design which also cost £4. So I ended up with 120 cards at a cost of £10 and they took a total of 22 minutes to printout. See below: Card 1 to go in with the card / Card 2 to be given out personally /

  • FOR MY FRIEND AND FELLOW ARTIST AND WRITER: AN INTERVIEW - INTRODUCING HILTON M. BRISCOE
    by JaneAParis

For my friend and fellow artist and writer: An Interview - Introducing Hilton M Briscoe / ...

For my friend and fellow artist and writer: An Interview - Introducing Hilton M Briscoe They said you could have ten questions, they did not say where you could start counting from - 0)What do you do when you are not doing art, writing or photography? / / What do I do when not writing? Listen to music mostly, I am always listening to music. I am usually on myspace trying to get people to talk to me, no one ever does, lol. 1) Who do you think you are? This is a very serious question. Who are you? / Who am I? To be honest I have no idea, I am only 18 and I haven’t lived enough to know myself. One thing I do know about myself is I am not the kind of person that is happy sitting in the crowd living my life like everyone else, this is true in all areas of my life. I am easily depressed as some people might have noticed but I have never seriously considered suicide, living a normal life with a 9 to 5 job and a constant routine that is only changed by government sanctioned holidays is something that makes me feel like I would seriously consider suicide. That probably makes me sound lazy and I would disagree, I’m just don’t fit into normal society. I have to make my own way in this world, I probably need peoples help cause this world confuses me sometimes. 2) Who are the most important people in your life and why? or Who do you love? This includes pets. / My parents are the most important people in my life, my father is getting on in age(he is 64 now) and is really ill so he doesn’t have much time left, when he dies I think both me and my mother will be devastated, but I will try to help her through the rough time. / King is another important creature in my life, he is my dog and he is 3 years old this November the first. I was with his mother while she was giving birth to him, he was tiny and I thought he was dead but he wasn’t. He was named after Kind Diamond(thrash metal legend) because when he was born he had a diamond pattern in white fur on the back of his neck(he has predominately black fur), it’s kind of funny because all through Sally’s(the mother) pregnancy I was telling myself I wouldn’t name my puppy something stupid like King or Boxer or one of those names men trying to overcompensate give their bulldogs. / I would say anyone who can make me happy when I am depressed is important in my life, so that’s all my friends and a few people on Redbubble. Out of the lot I will give Lexxy a special mention, she is my best friend and I love her to bits, she is going through a rough patch in her life down in London with her boyfriend, I wish I could help her but there is little I can do. 3) What are your dreams like, the ones you aspire to about the future. You can also share some of your sicker dreams too if you want:-) / To be honest I never remember my dreams, I have had quite a few nightmares and I absolutely love them. My favourite one was when I was visiting a travelling circus, I can’t remember the details because it is a childhood nightmare but it turned out it was a circus full of cannibalistic clowns and a dragon that they sacrificed children too. I loved that nightmare, I was about 6 when I had it. Ooh another nightmare I had actually terrified me and I woke up sweating when I dreamt it(I was about 4). In the nightmare there was a woman who was kidnapping children and she came to Coventry, all the kids in my neighbourhood decided to run away so we could hide from her and we all moved into the countryside, we lived in a small shanty town made from sheet metal we found on a farmers tip and lived in it happily for a few days. But the woman found us and she crept into our little village while we all slept at night and started putting us all in one at a time into her magic bag(in dungeons and dragons terms it would be called a “True Bag of Holding”) but one of the kids woke up before she could put him in her bag and he screamed which woke us all up, we all started running in every direction in the pitch black countryside night and I can remember crawling through a hedge and running as fast as I could through a field but she caught me, I woke up as she was putting me in her bag. Fantastic nightmare, I didn’t tell it very well, you had to be there, lol. 4) What is your favorite painting? -favorite photo? -favorite song? -favorite poem? -favorite short story? -favorite child’s nursery rhyme? -favorite child’s lullaby -favorite child’s story? and -favorite (any kind of art, your choice)? / My favourite painting would be “House of the Hanged Man” by Cezanne, I have never really thought of my favourite photo, I would say a photo of my family and a another family we were friends with on holiday in Rhyl(North Wales) with the sea in the background. My favourite song? I could name hundreds, but right now I will say “The Hunger” by The Distillers. I do have a favourite poem but I can’t remember it right now, lol but I remember it is about a person with a hyper sense of self importance, extreme arrogance and even psychopathic tendencies. My favourite short story would be my life, lol. I like 3 blind mice, I don’t know any lullabies, lol. My favourite child story would be “The Farm”, yes it’s not technically a child’s story but it has talking animals in and I loved that even if I didn’t get what the story was really about. My favourite kind of art would be either psychedelic or horror art, maybe a mix of both. 5) What do you like and what do you dislike about your homeland? If you could live somewhere else, where do you think you would choose and why? / What do I like about England? The fact that rock and metal was born here, lol. I dislike most other things about England and can’t wait to get away from it. I would love to live in Norway or Finland, I’m a Viking at heart, lol. 6) Who do you like on red bubble? / I like you, one of my favourite writers. Marlo and Ash Sivils are definitely my favourite artists. There are a load of very inspirational people on redbubble, Kathleen and Robert Knapman are just 2 out of the loads I could name. Oh then there is Gordon, he’s great at just about everything and I don’t think he is completely human, burningark is like the goth lord and I look up to him artistically and musically. 7) Why do you like art, writing, and photography? / I have a bad relationship with art to be honest, often I am left feeling empty by it which is why I get so enthusiastic about the artists I do get, which includes Ash, burningark, Gordon, Kathleen and Robert. / I love writing, it is so easy for me and I am good at it, I am not good at very much, lol. / Photography to me is about capturing exact moments in time, some cultures believe that a camera steals part of your soul when you have your picture taken, I don’t believe this but I am certainly uneasy about getting my picture taken. That has more to do with self esteem to be honest. 8) What do you think your two best poems are so far and what do you think your two best pieces of art are so far have been? Please share them with us below? / My 2 best poems? I have no doubt my favourite is I Dreamt of Heaven, and I suppose my other is Masks, Pens and Truths I Kept Hidden My best pictures are easily Nightmare – God Got His Revenge When I Took This Picture, and My Dog Is So Gay He Plays Dramatic Dead, the second one is of king. 9) Who are your influences – who or what inspires you in your creative work? / Dani Filth’s(of Cradle of Filth) inspires me, his lyrics are so dark and melodramatic I hope one day I could write like he does. 10) For the last question, I get to ask you the same thing since we interviewed each other – Now for my last question I shall ask the age old question(with my little story to explain how you had the foresight to bring the 3 things). You are marooned on a desert island, you had a premonition in your dreams the night before that it was going to happen and you quite fancy a nice break on a desert island so you decide to not try and stop it, what 3 things did you bring along with you and why? / 1)I would bring a manual on how to construct a small water powered power station / 2)I would bring a CD player and Cradle of Filth’s album “Nymphetamine” which would already be in the CD player so still counts as one item(in my logic, lol) / 3)I shall steal your 3rd item, a hot man who loves me. lol Thanks a lot my friend, smiles from Jane:-)

If you love your fellow RBers, why not join our group that aims to promote the works of artists at RedBubble and all over the web in an effort to bring in more viewers and sales? As Jo said in her blog: / It’s a simple premise. Get a group of people and all focus our attention on promoting a handful of works all over the internet. Then next time, my work gets a turn in the limelight. This is happening right now in the Promote Each Other group. get your art in front of a much wider audience members have reported increased views and sales only promote works you really like in places that you choose see lots of amazing art that would have otherwise passed you by be part of a team who work together to give each other a well deserved scratch on the back Why compete with every other artist when we can all come together and help one another? This week we’ve thrown away the ‘invite only’ option and want to invite anyone who is serious about promotion and marketing to come on by and see how it works. Please pay us a visit and see how you like it. :-) PROMOTE EACH OTHER / Muse by Dave Pearson / Autumn Red by Martin Pot Please note that by adding your work to this group, you give permission for fellow members to promote your work around the web which includes posting it on websites such as StumbleUpon and personal/art blogs

  • Welcome my fellow Deviants!
by John De Bord Photography IPA

Welcome my fellow Deviants! Greetings to all of you that took my advice in my journal...

Welcome my fellow Deviants! Greetings to all of you that took my advice in my journal over on deviantArt and came over here to RedBubble! There have been quite a few it seems to come on over and explore things. This place is quite different than DA as you may be finding out, but the differences I feel are also better as you will see. So I thought that I would go ahead and throw a little primer together for you guys, kinda a FYI for ya! I hope this helps you guys! I also am going to feature a few works from some of ya down below :) 1) RedBubble is FOR the Artist!- DA charges people for having a ‘subscription’ and also a ‘premium prints subscription’. When a user does NOT have a premium print subscription, they can only make 10% profit of their sales. When they have a premium subscription, artist only gets 50% of markup with DA getting the other 50% of artist profit. RedBubble is 100% free, costs nothing to join, there is NO member subscription, the artist keeps 100%!! of ALL profits with RB only getting the base price. There is NO ‘premium print subscription” on RB. 2) NO Popularity Contest Here!- Yes You read right, there is NO popularity contest here. Everyone is one and the same, all on the same level. Sure, your statts are accessible but are NOT displayed on the front of your page. In fact they are actually kind of hard to find lol I don’t even recall where they are at! There is no “popular” area of any kind, and all that there is really is the art of the front page. Nice huh? Thought many of you would like that! 3) A Structured Groups/Clubs System—- DA has been saying that they would something in this form now for years, literally, it took RB like a week to do it lol You can see all the groups here 4) Borders and Watermarks—-Do NOT add border for images which you are uploading here, as it generally a pain in the rear for when they print things. As such, they discourage it. The same for watermarks, as RB has a built in watermarking system, and if you upload an image that has a watermark then that image when sold will have one on it. (Though I am sure they would flag it first) 5) * True Theft Prevention!-* RB has an option that places a 1 pixel gif overlay on top of your images, so when someone tries to download an image of yours, instead they get a 1px gif! 6) The HTML here—- Ok all things considered, the HTML here is a lil whacky and unique. There is a cheat Sheet there that will help you will that and also a Firefox extension you can use, which I use and has been a total lifesaver. 7* *Getting Started On RB!- There is a BUNCH of things that have been posted here in the forums to help you guys out! When in doubt, always head there. These forums are VERY different than DA as teh age here is older and the atmosphere much more professional. Tutorials and Tips for Newcomers There is a wealth of info there including how to make a site badge, slideshows showing your RB portfolio, banner images, How to make T-shirts for sale, etc etc. 8*) “The Atmosphere Here!-” It is quite different as you will see. The owners of the site and admins are VERY friendly and helpful, and are fellow full time artist’s as well. The age here is older, as you will notice right away! Many of the people who I have brought here have actually left DA and haven’t looked back simply because they like it better and feel much more comfortable. 9)* “The Upload Process here—-” It is a lil slower, because the servers are in Australia, but not by much. And that is the only slower thing about this site, it loads faster, as a whole, pages and images fly when you click on them. 10) “NO Adverts!-” Yes that is correct, no adverts anywhere, period, which makes for an awesome experience for anyone who sees your work. It also makes for a nice site to send family and friends to show your work. Art the way it is meant to be seen, as art! All In All—- I hope you guys really enjoy it here. It is a really exceptional site that very much has the artist in mind. This is something that I think has been needed. Anyways, if ya all have any questions, please feel free to ask me, and I will help as I can as per usual! Hope ya all like the features below! —-John

Thanks J-CSaint-Po / ... for showing and sharing with us your top viewed works… I thought it was a great idea to show the numbers! / We get so caught up in our daily lives and creating, that it is nice to stop and take stock and give yourself a positive stroke that your work is being seen and accepted into this huge community of artists and talented individuals… I see another benifit to looking more closley at your numbers…it shows maybe some trends, and how others respond to your work. / I am seeing that my viewing public responds more to my fine art…(something I always knew)... but I am one of those artists that can not force my painting or drawing… / When I am inspired and ready for the emotional and physcial commitment… something appears on my easel or drawing board…when I am not inspired, I turn to my Camera. / I am seeing a trend in my photography as well and I have some rather large numbers in that field but not as big as my fine art, but that is okay…I mostly do my photography for myself, this is how I keep the fires of creativity stoked! So, long observation cut short…I will just keep doing what I do best, when I can do it and I will fill in the gaps and keep the fires lit with other avenues of inspiration!!! / Here are a few of my top viewed works…and many thanks to all who have contributed to these numbers! / Let’s see some of your numbers!!! Since I do not have Corel Photopaint on my computer (the newer computer) and it is, occasionally, driving me mad, I’ve been going about on the internet and trying out different free, or free to try, art programs. These were done with a site called Aviary.com, which has at least three program thingies that one can use. It’s not as fun, mind, as Corel Photopaint, but, it would make an interesting addition, in some respects. Providing the links are working correctly, you should be able to click on the images and be taken to where you can make comments on my works or browse about the site in general. I’ve also saved a couple of images, ostensibly the same but with some few marked differences, that I created but did not upload back to the site. I’ll save those for use at a later time, when I get my Corel Photopaint back. Also, my sister came out – who is a bit of a hardbutt when it comes to liking artwork, and she said my painting, the same one I’ve been moaning about, is fabulous. She especially likes the frog. Cool, eh? Well it is, because I am starting to feel more enthusiastic about the painting, myself. My son and his friend, who took a few years of art in school, think I should change the cloud behind the ladies head. I’m undecided. I could see how to do it, and why to do it, and I had considered it an option before they said bupkiss about it. Only, see, their main objection is that it gives too much focus to that part of the painting, and then people only notice the frog and such inadvertently, later on in life. Which is valid, to a point; but: 1) I want it to be that way! I want people to notice the woman and the cloud and all, and then notice all the water weirdness later, even though the woman and the sky are not the predominant part of the picture and even though the woman is opposite a sun that is huge. looming, and detailed more than most anything else in the painting, really! Or, it was. ANyway, huge and bright! And , 2) My sister noticed the frog just about straight off! For those of you who are just tuning in, or have forgotten, that would be this painting: which is absolutely a “real” painting – not a digital bone in it’s body, unless you count a mild alteration of a face that has, since, been obliterated and replaced with a painted one! In fact, it all started out as a crayon drawing from years ago, so,all that is digital is that it has been scanned, photographed, and uploaded! Yep, I may start feeling up to working on it, again, and soon. Which, come to think of it, I still haven’t finished this one either: Artwork in Progress, though I have gotten a lot further on it than you can see via the blog post. Anyway, outside of that I finally got to watch a good bit of Quark after waiting approximately 31 years, that’s all I have to say!

  • SPOTLIGHT ON MARK MOSKVITCH (Sydney Australia) with my compliments
    by Alateia

MARK MOSKVITCH IN HDR / ”!http://images-2.redbubble.net/img/art/border:blackwithdetail/product:laminated-print/size:small/view:preview…

MARK MOSKVITCH IN HDR / / Einstein once said “Joy in looking and comprehending is nature’s most beautiful gift”. I think that the camera does the looking while the photographer does the comprehension of the image; a comprehension of their own feelings toward this matrix of light that they capture, and more importantly, a second-guessing of the comprehension brought to an image by the alternative viewer. In accepting the law of physics that says we do not see anything at all, just the light reflected from it, the photographer is given license to create reality to some extent. Reality as it is in the case of photojournalism, or reality as they would wish to portray it in the case of fine art photography. Thus much of my work is built upon the high dynamic range (HDR) technique of capturing light as it dances before my lens. A technique purported to provide an image more similar to that seen by the human eye as opposed to the lens. I am free then to experiment with the light colours and tones in a manner similar to a painter to create the reality I seek for an image, and a reality I think will have meaning to the viewer, mostly for reasons I will never know. Therein for me, is the magic of photography and my reason for doing it. / by Mark Moskvitch I would like to share my appreciation for Marks’ work with you / take a look through his collection and look at how his perspective brings a charge to otherwise everyday subjects. This coupled with the tones and moods he arrives at through his understanding of HDR is what impresses me most about Marks’ work. / Bravo Mark! / I for one wish you a bright future through your lense, keep it coming!

Likewise, use the link, below the piece, to send to friends and family. / 4) Twitter, Facebook, Stumble Upon ,Glue, MySpace .. many are the places to share things you’ve enjoyed, and Red Bubble has, thoughtfully, provided a link under each piece that says “Share” which will help you submit it to many of those sites quite easily. Those are all ways that won’t cost you a thing! 5) If you are in the same area, see about getting together a show with other Red Bubble artists. / 6) If you have a gallery, or online store, increase your own traffic while helping out others by occasionally featuring the work of another Red Bubble artist. / 7) Or, if you are writers, how about forming a collaborative effort – a book of short stories or poems, perhaps – to be self published. Again, it can be totally free to do this! Think outside the box, think outside the Bubble, while looking for ways to help those inside the Bubble. lol no, it’s not an order, just some friendly advice
