This seems like the right place now to just voice my thoughts….. / “Nearly…” / to some, he may have only been a cat…. / to us, sure, he was one of five….but he was also family. / And he was a tiny part of RedBubble….. / after all, the boy featured in some fun cat images I recently posted and also ironically, another t-shirt designed only last week. Just a little story about how he got his name – he did have a lucky twelve months…..as a wee kitty, in a large litter, plus a few strays we adopted, HE was the one that kept falling in the toilet (when the kids left the lid up!) and one day I came home and found him drowned in there. It was the worst thing to find. / Yes, terrible, but what was worse than carryiing that little body out to give it a burial, was hearing this creepy deep moan emitting from him when I placed him on the ground wrapped in a towel!!! / Can you imagine! aaargh “It’s alive!!!” / And so we revived him, thawed him out, eyedroppered good stuff into him until the rigor passed, and saved his little hide. / And so we named him “Nearly” because he nearly wasn’t! / This last precious year was our gift to each other. My children and I have just come home from the vet without Nearly, our big fat dearly loved gentle giant…... / He was so very sick with some sudden disease – our homeloving boy went out two days ago, maybe a night on the tiles, who knows, came home this morning looking like crap and unable to breathe…not sure whether cat ‘flu, or results of a tomcat brawl, or even snake bite, but suffice to say, after the vet’s opinion of how bad he was, the kindest option for our poor boy was to bless him, thank him, and let him go. Upon our goodbyes, he still managed to arch his back up and “go for the pat” like a final farewell…... / What can I say…....we left him in tears… I had to write a little something for him somewhere, this seems like the best place, as I know there are plenty of cat lovers here who appreciate the space our little friends leave behind when they move on. / And that footprints remain in the heart long after the paws have gone….. Peace

An angry cat can be quite intimidating. Your usually cool cat suddenly crouches, half opens his mouth, draws back his lips, and bares his teeth in a terrifying expression. And then he expels his breath in a loud hiss. It’s enough to deter anyone – or anything. But that’s the whole point. And what could be more intimidating than sounding like one of the world’s most fearsome animals – the snake. The sound your cat makes – as well as its grimace – resembles that of a snake right before it strikes. And the message is clear: This is a warning, and any further threatening behavior toward me is at your peril. When your cat hisses, it is a defensive act; in fact, it’s an evolutionary strategy of deception based on mimicry, and occurs when one species of animal looks like or behaves like another one. Mimicry is fairly common in the animal kingdom

One of the most gorgeous creatures Mother Nature has gifted mankind with has been with us for nearly three weeks now. After a couple of days, we named her Mistgirl and shortened it to Misty . . . what else! She’s tiny and almost as light as a feather, silky soft, funny, and completely gorgeous. She’s also quite feisty, but, loves a cuddle when She wants one. She sits on her haunches, just like a Meerkat, and picks up things in her front paws to play with or investigate them, or, to get a better look at something. She can be quite delicate or rough in her handling of things – she pushes my finger away so gently, I almost can’t feel it, and yet she hits a ball with amazing force for such a wee creature! Anything that dangles and/or moves is fair game for those tiny talons! When she runs, she sounds like a light-weight miniature elephant with wings! She sneaks up on you and, before you know it, she’s climbing up the leg of your jeans to see what you’re up to! My knees and shoulders, and a few other places, too, are becoming covered in tiny red marks where she digs those miniscule, razor-sharp claws in as she climbs. We tried putting a collar with bells on it on her last week – that was a dismal failure, she’s so small you could have fitted two of her in it when it was done up to the smallest size! LOL We’ve had to re-learn the habit of watching where we put our feet BEFORE putting them down and making sure she isn’t curled up where we intend to sit! Unfortunately, she moves so quickly and, like all cats, loves to stalk, so, unfortunately, I’ve stepped on her a couple of times. She has such a very small squeak instead of a meow. Like all cats, she likes to be up high so she can see what’s going on around her; she has adopted our desks as one of her favourite places to be. If we shift her, she promptly gets right back where she was shifted from . . . .in front of the monitor!!! Just as well we both have flat monitors, she can’t sit on top of them like our last cat did. As I’m sitting here typing this, she’s adding her two bobs worth via the keyboard – my fingers moving over the keyboard seem to be an invitation to play! Oh, this is such Fun! Having had to compete with at least FOUR other cats, three of them adults, where she came from, she’s making the most of it now and eating like a horse – for the moment, I don’t think this will do her any harm. She might even grow a little!!! Strangely enough, she’s not very interested in going outside, and, yet, she was very much an outdoor cat where she came from. I don’t mind if she stays indoors as the street we live on is very busy for most of the day and would be a very dangerous place for a little kitten. This is going to be one hell of a journey, she already has a very definite personality and it’s determination with a capital “D”.

My mother has decreed that our new kittens are to be named 1, 2 and 3 I, in turn, decree that we must come up with three irresistible names that will stick fast to said felines and thus convince the clan’s matriarch not to give them away. Any suggestions? Their mother is a long-haired tortoiseshell. Their father is off gallavanting and is unavailable for colour-determination.

Feline fatale is on the featured art page! Internally, I’m running around in circles, flapping my arms and squealing with delight whilst sitting quietly at my work desk. It’s the first time I’ve made it onto the featured page and I’m rather pleased (if you can’t already tell).

Hello, Just a short note of introduction, and a thank you to my fellow members of the CAT LOVE group firstly for letting me join you and for the great welcome you have given me to both the group and Redbubble over the past few days. Like you I am a cat lover – I have eight rescue cats – all but one came to me by one means or another – the only one I went out and got was Jasper – at that time I only had one cat, my beautiful Bella, (she in turn had been brought from a friend’s farm as a weak and sickly kitten) and I thought he would be a companion for her – it didn’t quite work out that way – but that’s a story for another time! Of the others – Fleur was brought to me as an adult stray by another friend as she was in desperate need of a loving home. She had obviously been dumped and couldn’t understand what had happened to her – she spent the first three months of her life with us hiding under the guest room bed – only coming out to eat. Rather different now – she sleeps on the end of our bed and has become a lady of leisure! Two found their way to me. Gracie was one of those two – she appeared as a painfully thin ‘mother-to be’, – only a kitten herself and terribly afraid of humans. She gave birth to four tiny kittens in one of our outbuildings. They were several weeks old before I found them – one was taken and rehomed by my good friends who were kitten fosters – we called him Gizmo (after the good gremlin in the film of that name as he was very quiet and timid) – the others Felix, Angel and Bibby, were far too wild to be handled – three ‘shrieking banshees!. They were to be domesticated by me ready to go to loving owners – but by the time they were old enough and tame enough to leave there was no way that I could have ever parted with them! The youngest foundling – Mimi – is my ‘dumpling’ – having been away for the day we returned home to find this tiny little black dust ball kitten of about five weeks hiding in the garden hedge – we never found out where she had come from and can only assume that she had been ‘dumped’ by someone – their loss was our gain!. Needless to say she stayed and is now a beautiful young lady of two – but still very much the ‘baby’ of the family – and with the strangest personality you can imagine. Well, that’s ‘the feline family’. It has always been an ambition of mine to share the stories of my animal companions – now I have found Redbubble I really have no excuse not to! Thank you all for your kind comments and warm welcome!

  • Rose's Tale - Art by TET

    / Rose’s Tale...

/ Rose’s Tale / Acrylic on Canvas, 50×60cm, July 2007 Rose the cat is a new character in my series of cat themed artworks (view a selection of my cats and buy gift cards from my portfolio). Whilst Jac was kind of fun and whimsical in his own way, sometimes I think he is a little to ‘boyish’ to appeal to my audience which is mostly female. Jac likes to chase after little things that move very quickly whilst Rose prefers a slower, dreamier pace to life. Sometimes it’s good to slow down and be ideally optimistic about what the future might bring.
