This was done on different paper. It was very thick and rigid and I’ve never used it before. I think it was watercolor paper, but it’s been years so I don’t remember. At any rate, I did manage to put in a number of kitties!! The original is sold and in a private collection. Photographic reference from R. Groszmann, amongst others. Completed 1999
Unusual to see lions in the snow. They were huddled together and complaining a lot as they moved around and disturbed each other. The lighting, enhanced by the reflection off the snow, lit up their coats and the texture of their fur! OK, so just to clarify. The foreground and background really is snow! The foreground is a rock that they are partially lying behind, and the rock is covered with snow! Can you see it? Shot in the snow in winter.
I met this bobcat on a recent visit to the local wildlife hospital and rescue center. Most of the animals there were being rehabilitated after injuries or being raised as orphans. The four adult bobcats were healthy enough to return to the wild, but they had been “humanized” – meaning they associate humans with food and shelter. Instead of being set free, the two pairs stay as foster parents to any orphaned or injured baby bobcats to minimize human contact. This drawing was done with charcoal on 9”x12” smooth bristol paper (2009). I am offering limited edition prints approximately 8.9”x12” and donating a portion of my profit to The Wildlife Center of New Mexico where this cat lives. 594 views as of 11/07/09.
I can’t help but take pictures of my favorite little model. Hope you enjoy another shot my of my little guy… I rescued him a little over 2 years ago. Poor little thing was only 2 pounds at 3 months old. I’m happy to say that he is now 13 pounds and boss of the house. He has a wonderful personality and makes me laugh every day. / in the “Cats and Dogs” and the “Playful Photogenic Pets” groups. Another huge thank you to the hosts of the above mentioned groups!

acrylic and prisma color pencil on acid free matte board. / 32” x 40” A composite of four Tigers residing in the Denver Zoo. I preferred to paint them a more exotic location. There were eight tiger subspecies at one time, but three became extinct during the 20th century. Over the last 100 years, hunting and forest destruction have reduced tiger populations from hundreds of thousands of animals to perhaps fewer than 1,500. Tigers are hunted as trophies, and also for body parts that are used in traditional Chinese medicine. All five remaining tiger subspecies are endangered, and many protection programs are in place. Bengal tigers live in India and are sometimes called Indian tigers. They are the most common tiger and number about half of all wild tigers. Over many centuries they have become an important part of Indian tradition and lore.
